UAN – Universal Account Number

Universal Account Number is important as the entire process related to


Employee Provident Fund (EPF) services is now operated online. Thanks
to UAN, accessing your PF account services like withdrawal, checking
EPF balance without the help of employer and PF loan application is
easy.

Universal Account Number or UAN


Universal Account Number is a 12-digit number, every employer
contributing to EPF has. The Employee Provident Fund Organization
(EPFO) allots it. UAN of an employee remains same throughout life
irrespective of the number of job he/she changes. Every time an
employee switches job, EPFO allots a new member identification
number (ID), which will be linked to the UAN. You can put in a request
for this new member ID by submitting the UAN to the new employer.
Once the member ID is created, it gets linked to the UAN of the
employee.

The following steps are to be followed:

1. Visit the EPF Portal and click on ‘Our Services’ on the dashboard
and click on ‘For Employees’
2. Click on UAN Online Service (OCS/OTCP)

3. Click on the link ‘Know your UAN Status’


4. You can either enter your PF number or Member ID or PAN or
Aadhaar number. Other details like date of birth, mobile number,
are also to be filled.

5. Click over “Get Authorization pin” 6. Authentication pin will be


received in the registered mobile number. You will then require to
validate the pin received by clicking “Validate OTP and get UAN”
7. You will receive the UAN number and its status as message in
the registered mobile number.

2. Passbook
To view the passbook online, members are required to be registered on
the unified member portal. After six hours of registration, members can
view their passbook online. However, passbook facility will not be
available for Exempted Establishments Members, Settled Members and
Inoperative Members.

 Step by step process to access your passbook online:

1. Visit the EPFO click on ‘Our Services’ on the dashboard and click
on ‘For Employees’
2. Click on ‘Member Passbook

3. The following details must be populated to log in to access the


account.
How to update your PF details : -

The PF updating process will happen at two levels - one at the


employee level and then at the employer. Here's how the process will
flow:

* Member will submit changes online to the employer on the Member


Unified Portal
* System will compare the requested changes with similar fields
received from the Aadhaar platform
* After successful verification, the request will be transferred to the
employer
* The employer will then forward the same along with the employee's
request online to the EPFO
* EPFO processes the requisite corrections.

Process to be followed by the employee


Step 1: Login at the Unified Portal website of the EPFO here using your
UAN and password.

Step 2: Click on "Manage>Modify Basic Details".


Step 3: Now, provide the correct details as per Aadhaar (System will
verify the details entered with UIDAI- Aadhaar Data)

Step 4: On clicking "Update Details" on the previous screen, request


will be submitted to the employer for further approval. Before
submission by employer, employee can withdraw the request by
pressing "Delete Request"
