Accreditation of Programs
GIK Institute offered programs are accredited by the concerned accreditation bodies as well as in line
with the Washington Accord standards. Our curricula are designed to meet international standards,
with a focus on student-centered education and an emphasis on lifelong learning. This year the
following programs received accreditation:
Ÿ BS Software Engineering was offered in Fall 2023 intake following provisional approval by
National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC).

27th Convocation
On June 23, 2023, GIK Institute held its annual convocation ceremony, a momentous event for the 465
students who were graduating with their bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. The ceremony,
attended by the Chancellor, SOPREST and GIK Institute leadership, Deans, Directors, faculty, officers,
and the families of the graduating class, applauded the students' hard work and dedication to their
studies. The ceremony was a celebration of the students' academic achievements and commitment to
leadership, teamwork, and integrity in all aspects of life. A total of 394 students graduated with their
bachelor's degrees, 60 with their master's degrees, and 11 with their PhDs. The Chief Guest, Chairman
Senate, Mr. Sadiq Sanjrani, addressed the graduating class, praising their efforts and reminding them of
the many opportunities that lay ahead. The convocation ceremony was a fitting conclusion to the
students' time at GIK Institute and a celebration of their many accomplishments. We wish them all the
best as they move on to new and exciting opportunities.

Admissions 2023
In 2023, GIK Institute's academic community expanded with 2023 enthusiastic undergraduate
students, 169 postgraduate learners pursuing MS degrees, and 59 pioneering PhD candidates. This
influx of talented individuals promises to fuel innovation and research across diverse fields, solidifying
GIK's position as a leading academic center.

The workshops aimed to provide professional trainings and courses to enhance the participants'
knowledge, skills, and competencies, as per the changing norms and developments in their respective
fields.
Faculty and Staff Promotions
The institute has recognized the outstanding performance and contributions of its faculty and staff by
awarding them deserved promotions. In the past two years, the following promotions have taken
place:
Ÿ Six Associate Professors have been elevated to the rank of Professor.
Ÿ Twelve Assistant Professors have advanced to the position of Associate Professor.
Ÿ One hundred and eighty-six staff and officers have moved up to the next cadre.
These promotions reflect the institute's commitment to excellence and quality in education and
research.
Curriculum Review and Common First Year
The institute has been continuously reviewing and updating its curriculum to keep pace with the
national and international standards and trends in education. The Board of Studies has recommended
the inclusion of new courses and updated course content to cover novel technologies and approaches
such as AI, Generative Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, 3D Printing and Additive
Manufacturing, Chip Design, Fintech, and others. These courses aim to equip the students with the
skills and knowledge required for the 21st century. In addition, the institute has also introduced a
Common First Year for all freshmen, starting from the Fall 2022 intake.
Inauguration of New Girl's Hostel
The Fall 2023 semester heralded the inauguration of Hostel 13, a new girls' dormitory at the Institute.
This 91-room facility, accommodating 180 students, represents the Institute's unwavering
commitment to providing a holistic educational experience.
Installation of 2MW Solar Power Plant
The Institute marked a significant step towards sustainable energy with the inauguration of a new
1MW solar power plant. This landmark project, financed by the National Bank of Pakistan and GIK's
parent body, SOPREST, reinforces the institute's commitment to environmental responsibility and clean
energy solutions. In 2023, the Institute installed another 1MW Solar Power Project, increasing its total
solar power capacity to over 2MW. The project was inaugurated by Mr. Ashar Aziz, Chairman of
SkyElectric, a US-based company that installed the project.
Faculty & Staff Housing Completed, Graduate Hostel Underway
New accommodation buildings for faculty and staff are now complete, offering improved living options.
Additionally, construction of a 20-room graduate hostel has begun near the faculty club, enhancing
campus housing options for students.
Newly Inducted Faculty Orientation and Training Program
A comprehensive New Faculty Orientation Program, including technology training and administrative
onboarding was introduced to ensure smooth transition and foster a successful academic environment.
10,000 Trees Monsoon Planting Initiative
The Institute's "10,000 Trees Monsoon Planting Initiative" surpassed its goal, thanks to the tireless
efforts of volunteers and staff. Over 400 trees were planted daily, resulting in a total of 10,000 new
trees enriching the community and contributing to a greener future. This achievement reflects GIK's
commitment to environmental sustainability and positive community impact.

Research Publications
Our research output remained consistent in 2023, with a total of 337 publications in 2023 and 347
publications in 2022. Notably, conference paper presentations saw a significant rise of 44%,
showcasing our active engagement in disseminating research findings within the academic
community. While the percentage of high-impact publications went from 78% to 74%, the overall
number remained impressive, highlighting the continued quality and impact of our research
endeavors.

Indus Valley Capital led a $1.2M seed round for Zyp, enabling them to build their first electric motorbikes and
ba ery swapping sta ons. Zyp aims to electrify Pakistan's 25 million motorbikes, addressing trade imbalance,
infla on, fuel costs, and air quality. Their me culously designed motorbikes and ba ery swapping technology
perform well in Pakistan's environment. The Zum 2000 has a 75km/h speed, 70km range, and 30-second ba ery

Two successful events were held in 2023: a Career Fair in February and a combined Open House and
Career Fair in May. Both events saw enthusiastic participation from students and companies alike,
facilitating fruitful interactions and potential career matches.
This initiative underscores GIK's commitment to equipping its graduates with the skills and knowledge
sought by industry. By fostering collaboration and engagement, we prepare our students for successful
careers while contributing to the nation's workforce development.
