List of computer parts and their corresponding functions:

1. Central Processing Unit (CPU)

● Function: Acts as the brain of the computer, performing calculations, running programs,
and executing instructions.

2. Motherboard

● Function: The main circuit board that houses the CPU, memory, and other essential
components. It provides connectors for other peripherals.

3. Random Access Memory (RAM)

● Function: Provides temporary storage that the CPU uses to store data that is actively
being used or processed.

4. Power Supply Unit (PSU)

● Function: Converts electrical power from an outlet into usable power for the other
components of the computer.

5. Hard Disk Drive (HDD) / Solid State Drive (SSD)

● Function: Provides long-term storage for the operating system, applications, and data.

6. Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)

● Function: Handles rendering of images, video, and animations. Essential for gaming,
video editing, and other graphic-intensive tasks.

7. Cooling Systems (Fans, Heat Sinks, Liquid Cooling)

● Function: Keeps the CPU, GPU, and other components cool to prevent overheating.

8. Optical Drive (CD/DVD/Blu-ray)

● Function: Reads and writes data from optical discs.

9. Network Interface Card (NIC)

● Function: Connects the computer to a network, either via Ethernet (wired) or WiFi
(wireless).
10. Sound Card

● Function: Manages audio input and output, improving sound quality and providing
additional audio features.

11. Peripheral Ports and Connectors

● USB Ports: Connects various peripherals like keyboards, mice, printers, and external
storage.
● HDMI/DisplayPort/VGA: Connects the computer to monitors and other display devices.
● Audio Jacks: Connects headphones, microphones, and speakers.

12. Case/Chassis

● Function: Houses and protects all the internal components of the computer, providing a
structure for mounting.

13. Input Devices

● Keyboard: Allows the user to input text and commands.

● Mouse: Allows the user to interact with the computer's graphical interface.

14. Output Devices

● Monitor: Displays the graphical output from the computer.

● Printer: Produces a physical copy of documents and images from the computer.
● Speakers: Output sound from the computer.

15. BIOS/UEFI Firmware

● Function: The low-level software that initializes and tests hardware during the boot-up
process and provides runtime services for operating systems and programs.

16. Expansion Cards

● Function: Provide additional functionality, such as improved audio, network capabilities,

or enhanced graphics.

Each part plays a vital role in the overall functionality of the computer, working together to
perform various tasks and run applications smoothly.
