READ PROJECT
I. Introduction
“The more you read, the more things you know. The more that you learn, the more
places you’ll go”- Dr. Suess. The importance of reading skills cannot be stressed enough
reading is fundamental in helping us find and convey information. It is an essential skill that’s
developed at a very young age. Reading has many benefits, but it’s a skill that even a lot of
adults don’t use enough. Reading is a gateway to learning about everything. It helps you
discover new things and educate yourself in any area of life you are interested in. Having
excellent reading comprehension skills is crucial. It increases the enjoyment and
effectiveness of reading and helps not only academically, but professionally and in a person’s
personal life. Reading comprehension is essential for language and literature, as well as
developing a student’s critical thinking and memory skills, focus and their ability to solve
problems.
In amidst of the challenges in developing strong reading habits and comprehension,
Project READ was planned aiming JHS and SHS students of Tampilisan National High School
to:
a) assist students at risk to improve their reading skills.
b) evaluate the improvement of the student learning proficiency
c) enhance/develop the reading abilities of slow/non-readers and;
d) equip students with necessary reading materials
II. Rationale
Overview of the proposal
Students with reading difficulties have the same motivational needs and
characteristics as other students. Some of them, however, may be less able to organized
their perception or to comprehend abstracts ideas and concepts. Some may have poor
memory, poor level of motivation, and short span of attention in work situations or
associated behavioral problems. Most of all, owing to encounters of failure they tend to
have low expectation of themselves at school, also low aspiration. Non reader or poor
readers often have low opinions of themselves and their abilities. Many time they feel
isolated and behavior problems can surface. They can perform poorly in other subjects
because they cannot read and understand the materials and often makes the reader tend to
give-up.
So that, TNHS teachers are providing extra instructional time to help children achieve
levels of literacy that will enable them to be successful through their school careers and
beyond.

So then, last school year 2023-2024 Remedial Reading Program is developed to give
additional help to TNHS students who have fallen behind to learn to the best of their ability
and to bring back into the mainstream classes as far as possible.
On the other hand, this project will allow building parent teacher relationships and
essential for establishing school family partnership that constitutes the foundation for all
other forms of family involvement in education.
Project Benefits/Beneficiaries
Students who are struggling in reading and comprehension are the target
beneficiaries of this project.
Struggling students will be guided by their adviser, project members, and consistent
honor students in each grade level by meeting these students. Parents could be benefited
too and proud of that their children strive to extend their services to a greater number of
individual. Selected teachers also serve as mediator in implementing the project as remedial
teachers.
