This manual is valid for standard multi-line 2 PPU/GPC/GPU units with firmware version
2.30.0 or later.
This chapter includes important information about general legal issues relevant in the handling
of DEIF products. Furthermore, some overall safety precautions will be introduced and
recommended. Finally, the highlighted notes, which will be used throughout this document, are
presented.
Safety issues
Installing the multi-line 2 unit implies work with dangerous currents and voltages. Therefore, the
installation should only be carried out by authorized personnel who understand the risks involved
in the working with live electrical equipment.
Programming
The multi-line unit is delivered from factory with factory settings. These are based on an average
value and do not necessarily represent values matching the generator set in question.
Precautions must be taken to check this before running the generator set.
Notes
Throughout this document a number of notes with helpful user information will be presented. To
ensure that these notes are noticed, they will be highlighted in order to separate them from the
general text.

4. Menu settings
The setup of parameters is done via the display or the PC utility software (USW).
Setting lists
The mode ASCII is used for modem communication (ASCII: 7 data bit. RTU: 8 data bit).
Regarding relay settings and selections: See description in the Designer’s Reference
Handbook.
The max. no. of alarm output relays available are dependent on the hardware options
selected.
®
The utility software is a Windows based software which can be downloaded from the website
www.deif.com.
To adjust the parameters through the utility software, a computer must be connected to the multi-
line 2 and the parameters must be uploaded to the computer.
5. Functional description
RS 485 wiring
PLC
Normally the Modbus does not need bias resistors (end terminators), they are only
needed in case of very long lines and/or many nodes (>32) on the Modbus network.
If bias resistors are needed, base the calculation on the following data:
- A line internal pull-up bias resistor: 22 kΩ
- B line internal pull-down bias resistor: 22 kΩ
- Receiver input sensitivity: +/-200 mV
- Receiver input impedance: 12 kΩ
Data tables
*Address 2 bits 12 and 13: The selection of remote/local mode must be made with a
pulse. If the command is repeated, it will overrule the selection from the display.
• Activate terminal 26
• Activate frequency control register in menu 4052
• Write the control command address 2. Bit 0 = ON, Bit 8 = ON
• Write in the control register address 3 the desired frequency offset
*The selection of remote/local mode must be made with a pulse. If the command is
repeated, it will overrule the selection from the display.
The entire setting of parameters can be made using the Modbus. The combination of function and
address areas used is described in the following:
The max. number of data query is limited of the length of the actual table.
The max. number of data query is limited of the length of the actual table or max.

Refer to the Designer’s Reference Handbook of your multi-line for information on:
• Availability of channels
• Min./max. settings
• Factory settings
However, it is possible to write to channels where the option is not set, it is not possible to enable
the channel. E.g. if an attempt is made to write a "1" to the enable flag, the "1" will be discarded,
and the enable flag remains "0". It is not possible to write to offset 0. These values are used for
DEIF internal version control.
Examples:
• Write nominal frequency (4011), offset 182, 60Hz
ID = 1, 60Hz = 600Hz/10 = 0258h
Address 2000 + 182 = 2182d = 0886h
Tx: 01h 10h 08h 86h 00h 01h 02h 58h 30h ACh
Rx: 01h 10h 08h 86h 00h 01h E2h 40h
6. Technical data
ASCII mode:
• 9600 or 19200 bps
• 7 data bits
• None parity
• 1 stop bit
For further technical data, please refer to the Designer’s Reference Handbook.
