QUESTION ONE – (30 MARKS)

a) What is a buffer solution? (2 Marks)


b) Distinguish between the following terms: (4 Marks)
(i) Homogenous and Heterogeneous equilibrium
(ii) Reversible and irreversible reactions
c) Calculate the PH of 3.80 x 10−4M nitric acid. (2 Marks)
d) Highlight the applications of equilibrium constants. (3 Marks)
e) Show that the gas constant R is equal to 0.0821L atm K −1 mol−1 (3 Marks)
