GSAT Intramural Meet 2023

Code of Ethics

PLAYERS
1. Play by the rules.
2. Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your captain, coach or manager
approach the official during a break after the competition.
3. Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or
provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted in any sports.
4. Work hard for yourself and/or for your team to achieve excellence. Your team’s
performance will be benefitted, so will you.
5. Be a good sport. Appreciate all good plays of your team, opponent or other team.
6. Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of
any players.
7. Cooperate with your coach, teammates or opponents. Without them, there would be no
competition.
8. Play for the fun of it and not just to please parents and coaches.
9. Avoid use of derogatory language.

COACHES
1. Be responsible in your demands on young players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
2. Teach your players that the rules of the sports are mutual agreement which no one
should evade or break.
3. Whenever possible, give each player reasonable chance of success.
4. Avoid over playing the talented players. The “just-average” players need and deserve
equal time.
5. Remember that the students participate for fun and enjoyment and that winning is only a
part of the motivation.
6. Ensure that the equipment and facilities meet safety standards and appropriate to the
age and ability of the players.
7. Take into consideration the maturity level of the students when scheduling and
determining the length of practice time and competition.
8. Follow the advice of the physician when determining an injured player if he or she is
already fit to resume training or competition.
9. Make personal commitment to keep yourself informed of the sound coaching principles
of growth and development of children.
10. Avoid the use of derogatory language.

OFFICIALS
1. Compliment all participants on their efforts.
2. Be consistent, objective and courteous in calling all infractions.
3. Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for all opponents.
4. Ensure that the “spirit of the game” of students is not lost by using common sense and not
over-emphasizing errors.
5. Publicly encourage rule changes that will reinforce the principles of participation for fun
and enjoyment.
6. Ensure that your behaviour is consistent with the principles of good sporting conduct.
Action speaks louder than words.
7. Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed with sound principles of growth
and development of students.
8. Avoid derogatory language.

GSAT Intramural Meet 2023

The TRUE Sportsmanship

1. Will consider all athletic opponents as guests and treat them with the courtesy
due to friends and guests.
2. Will accept the decision of the officials without question.
3. Will never hiss or boo a player or officials.
4. Will never utter abusive or irritating remarks from the sideliners.
5. Will never attempt to rattle an opposing player when pitching in a
baseball/softball game or making a free throw in basketball.
6. Will applaud opponents who make good plays or show good sportsmanship.
7. Will seek to win by fair and lawful means, according to the rules of the game.
8. Will love the game as his and not for what winning may bring him.
9. Will do unto others as he would have them do unto him.
10. Will win without boasting and lose without excuses.

Ground Rules

1. All ballgames are given 10 minutes for warm-up after the last call. Any team who fails to
appear 15 minutes thereafter shall be declared loser by default.
2. Games will be played in Bracket system. In case of double tie, point system will be used.
3. Decision of referees and umpire is final. Any protests will not be entertained by the
management. Volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and Sepak Takraw will be played in
three sets and basketball in halves of 15 minutes per half.
4. Unit managers and coaches shall be held responsible for the proper discipline and good
behaviour of the athletes.
5. Error of scoring in any game, if not contested and corrected on the duration of the
game will be considered final.
6. Only officially enrolled students in all year levels are allowed to participate in any game
events. Ghost fictionist athletes are strictly prohibited.
7. Solidarity Meeting will be done right after the program. During the meeting, the
tournament director will give the schedule of games in your specific event.
8. All games will be played by a single elimination system. (Please see illustration)
9. Game 1 will start immediately right after the solidarity meeting.
