Code of Ethics
PLAYERS
1. Play by the rules.
2. Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your captain, coach or manager
approach the official during a break after the competition.
3. Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or
provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted in any sports.
4. Work hard for yourself and/or for your team to achieve excellence. Your team’s
performance will be benefitted, so will you.
5. Be a good sport. Appreciate all good plays of your team, opponent or other team.
6. Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of
any players.
7. Cooperate with your coach, teammates or opponents. Without them, there would be no
competition.
8. Play for the fun of it and not just to please parents and coaches.
9. Avoid use of derogatory language.
COACHES
1. Be responsible in your demands on young players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
2. Teach your players that the rules of the sports are mutual agreement which no one
should evade or break.
3. Whenever possible, give each player reasonable chance of success.
4. Avoid over playing the talented players. The “just-average” players need and deserve
equal time.
5. Remember that the students participate for fun and enjoyment and that winning is only a
part of the motivation.
6. Ensure that the equipment and facilities meet safety standards and appropriate to the
age and ability of the players.
7. Take into consideration the maturity level of the students when scheduling and
determining the length of practice time and competition.
8. Follow the advice of the physician when determining an injured player if he or she is
already fit to resume training or competition.
9. Make personal commitment to keep yourself informed of the sound coaching principles
of growth and development of children.
10. Avoid the use of derogatory language.
OFFICIALS
1. Compliment all participants on their efforts.
2. Be consistent, objective and courteous in calling all infractions.
3. Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for all opponents.
4. Ensure that the “spirit of the game” of students is not lost by using common sense and not
over-emphasizing errors.
5. Publicly encourage rule changes that will reinforce the principles of participation for fun
and enjoyment.
6. Ensure that your behaviour is consistent with the principles of good sporting conduct.
Action speaks louder than words.
7. Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed with sound principles of growth
and development of students.
8. Avoid derogatory language.
