Midterms
All students are required to adhere to the School Catalog and Student Handbook pertaining to
professional behaviors and academic performance throughout the nursing program. Failure to meet
expected requirements may result in a failing clinical grade or withdrawal from the program. Faculty
will provide written documentation throughout the semester for any low performance than what is
required. Lower than expected performance is indicated in the evaluation tool as need improvement or
designated as unsatisfactory. Students must be satisfactory in all areas by the end of the semester to pass
this course.

Performs hand washing before and after each patient situation and each
skill.
Follows Universal and Standard Precautions
Promotes the patient’s dignity and privacy.
Identify client using (two) identifiers correctly
Maintains an environment free from potentially harmful elements.
Initiates patient contact only when the instructor is in the clinical
setting.
Asks instructor’s guidance before performing new or invasive
procedures, or administering medications.
Develops a preliminary plan of care for each assigned patient
Is sensitive to non-verbal cues that are relevant in determining client’s
condition
Reports and documents assessment findings, interventions, skills,
medication administration and progress toward patient outcomes
while maintaining confidentiality
Completes a health history on one patient.
Performs a head-to-toe assessment on a patient.
Administers oral and parenteral medications demonstrating the
“rights of medication administration”.
Collaboration with clients, family, and other members of the health team
Introduces self before each initial client interaction
Cooperates and coordinates with other members of the health care
team.
Uses therapeutic communication techniques to collect pertinent patient

Demonstrate behavior and attitude of a professional nurse and according to
professional nursing standard and practice
Adheres to the policies and guidelines of the School of Nursing and
affiliating agencies.
Maintains personal appearance according to the policies of the FVI-
School of Nursing, and affiliating agencies.
Reports to the clinical area, pre-conferences, and post conferences, on
time as scheduled
Informs the clinical instructor and course lead instructor regarding
absence or tardiness at least one hour prior to the start of clinical
sessions.
Reports to the clinical instructor and assigned staff member(s) when
entering and leaving the clinical area.
Attends all clinical sessions or completes alternative assignment.
