REFERENCES
Rev P of the GTX 3000 Installation Manual (190-00926-01) is applicable to this bulletin and is available
from the Dealer Resource Center portion of the Garmin website (https://dealers.garmin.com).
MANPOWER
One hour (1.0) labor including testing.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
This modification is not warranty reimbursable.
CAUTION
Transmitting without an antenna or 50 ohm load attached to both antenna ports may damage
the transmitter. Never connect power to the unit with one or both antenna ports unconnected. An
antenna or a 50 ohm, 5-watt load must be connected to both antenna ports any time the unit is
powered on. This is required because the GTX 3000 transmits Mode S acquisition squitter replies
about once per second whether interrogations are received or not.
To allow the unit to be configured while installed in the aircraft, an optional breakout harness and
connector may be installed in the aircraft as shown in Figure 2. Since the breakout harness is part of the
aircraft’s harness, shielded cable and proper shield terminations are required. The breakout harness must
be no longer than 1 meter.
NOTE
If the GTX 3000 is connected to any other devices via RS-232/RS-422 they must be powered off
prior to loading GTX 3000 System software.
Press “Load Software” to bring up the software upload page. The tool will scan the available serial
ports on the PC and attempt to connect to the unit as shows in Figure 4.
Once a connection to the unit is established, the Software Upload page will appear as shown in
Figure 5. In the lower-left corner of the Software Upload page, verify that the GTX is connected. If
the tool was unable to connect to the unit, refer to Troubleshooting Connection Problems in the
GTX 3000 Installation Tool Guide.
New configuration items have been added in system software 3.30. Therefore, after initially loading
version 3.30, the unit will report a Non-Volatile Memory failure and a Configuration Module Invalid
warning, if a configuration module is present. Figure 8 illustrates these indications on the GTX Install
Tool Status page. To clear the Non-Volatile Memory failure, reset the unit by cycling power or by
selecting Normal Mode and pressing Set at the bottom of the install tool. This will initialize the new
configuration items to their default settings in non-volatile memory. Next, the configuration module
invalid warning can be cleared by selecting GTX->Configuration->Push to configuration module (see
Figure 9) and then performing a unit reset while the unit is installed in the aircraft. This will perform a
one-time write of the unit’s configuration data to the configuration module.
NOTE
The push to configuration module request is cached on the GTX and executed on the next
unit reset or power up. This allows the request to be issued while the unit is removed
from the aircraft and executed after the unit is re-installed.
Please refer to the GTX 3000 Installation Manual to review configuration items that were added in
system software v3.30. Configure new items as needed for your installation per the installation manual.
TESTING PROCEDURE
The unit’s built-in Self-Test and successful completion of the Post Installation Check Out Procedure in the
aircraft as outlined in the GTX 3000 Installation Manual shall be adequate to identify any errors in this
modification.
