TRACK 28 » Speaker 1
My name is Lindsay. It’s just great to be young! I’m 16 years old and going to high school. High school is
hard enough as it is. I stay in school for seven hours then come home and do another two to three hours
of homework. I have other things besides school to juggle. For example, I need my own personal time to
do sports. Other things that interest me are relationships and friendships. Not a lot of adults give us
credit, considering all the stressful situations we get put in and all the drama that goes on at school with
friends. I think I’ve been handling it well, given the circumstances.
TRACK 29 » Speaker 2
Hi! I’m Ryan. Being a teenager is one of the most dramatized and fun chapters in a person’s life. School
gets tough as one gets older. I also know teenagers are judged by the way they act and dress. Popularity
plays a big role. These are some things that most teenagers and I go through in everyday life. It is not
always a walk in the park. You have to earn other people’s respect and show them that you are mature
and responsible. Nonetheless, being a teenager is really cool, and it is a time when a person has more
choices and responsibilities in their lives to make it fun and interesting.
TRACK 30 » Speaker 3
I’m Sarah. Being a teenager today is really exciting. We have so much that we can accomplish and so
much that we can do with our lives. I feel like I have my whole life ahead of me and that I am in control of
what direction I choose. Sometimes all of these thoughts seem overwhelming. Like all teenagers, I have to
attend school, which is sometimes very stressful. I also play soccer year-round. It is not always easy
juggling school, homework, studying for exams and soccer, and still find the time to do fun things. There is
always pressure to make good grades and to do my best. I have to strive for my best and work hard. By
doing this and keeping that frame of mind, I can achieve anything.

TRACK 33 » TEENAGERS – Teenage Worries (exercise 2)
What worries you? What you see in the mirror? What you hear in the cafeteria? The catastrophes you
watch on TV?
Psychologists report that as teenagers we have at least as many things to worry about as we did when we
were toddlers.
For example 75% of girls in grades 9 to 12 worry about their appearance. They are worried about their
ability to look skinny and dress right. Boys and girls worry about school, getting along with parents, and
what to do when they are older. However, girls are more concerned with personal problems, romantic
relationships, and being liked by other kids than boys.
You have a lot on your mind and it’s hard to stop worrying. Although it is difficult not to get obsessed with
a problem, you must work hard to stop thinking about it and stop worrying. Just remember that fear is
universal. It touches everyone. Talk about what’s bothering you. Write in a journal. Do some exercise.
Breathe. Put those problems in perspective and you will take control and begin to stop worrying.
