3. Static Measurements on the CAN BUS 0

NOTE The beginning and end of the CAN BUS must both be terminated
with a terminal resistor of 120 Ohm!
The resistance measurement on a closed CAN BUS results in
approx. 60 Ohm and approx. 120 Ohm on an open CAN BUS.
The resistance measurement on the MOD 4 test adapter
(2/Fig. 1 / p. 4) is always made between contacts 7 and 8.

Ohm CAN BUS (120 R II 120 R)
CAN_NEG --> CAN_POS approx. 38 CAN tap line without terminal resistor
kOhm

Incorrect Connection:
The CAN_NEG --> CAN_POS measurement results in, e.g. 40 Ohm.
Terminal resistance too high --> (120 R II 120 R II 120 R) = 40 Ohm

4. Checking the Terminal Resistances 0

NOTE The color coding of the cables can be different at the “CAN
plug-in connections”! The color coding is not a reference for the
measurement. Measure through from connector to connector if
not clearly labeled.

Procedure
• Switch the system OFF.

NOTE All measurements described below must be performed using the

MOD4 test adapter.
Direct measurements on the connector contacts should be
avoided as much as possible because when this is done, it can
lead to mechanical damage and to later contact problems.

12 Troubleshooting Instructions

Resistance Measurement on an open CAN BUS

Fig. 2: 120 Ohm

• The MOD4 test adapter (2/Fig. 1 / p. 4) can be installed at any location on the CAN
BUS; to do this, the particular connector must be unplugged and the test adapter
plugged in, see (Fig. 2 / p. 12) e.g. D54.X42.
- Connect an Ohm meter to the adapter at contacts 7 and 8.
¹ In this situation, the measurement is made on an open CAN BUS and a resis-
tance value of approx. 120 Ω should result.

Resistance Measurement on a closed CAN BUS

• If the previously unplugged X42 connector is plugged into the MOD 4 test adapter as
shown in (Fig. 3 / p. 13),
¹ the measurement is made on a closed CAN BUS. With a correctly terminated
CAN BUS, a resistance value of approx. 60 Ω must result.

03.07 CS PS AX R/F Medical Solutions
Troubleshooting Instructions 13

Fig. 3: 60 Ohm

NOTE The two measurements described can be performed at any loca-

tion on the CAN BUS.
When there are differences from the listed values (120 Ohm on an
open CAN BUS or 60 Ohm on a closed CAN BUS) and to check the
correct position of the terminal resistor, the following checks
must be performed.

Checking the Bucky in the Table and Bucky Wall Stand

• Unplug the X41 and X42 connectors on the D54 backplane (1/Fig. 4 / p. 13).

Fig. 4: D54

Siemens AG RXB1-140.840.01.04.02 Page 13 of 22 MULTIX PRO/TOP

Medical Solutions 03.07 CS PS AX R/F
14 Troubleshooting Instructions

• Plug in the test adapter on D54.X41.

• Resistance measurement at contacts 7 + 8:
- R > 38 kOhm --> OK
- R ~ 120 Ohm --> error in the Bucky insert, check jumper D30.X4.(2+3).
• Plug the X42 connector back in.
• Resistance measurement at X41, contacts 7 + 8
- R ~ 120 Ohm --> OK
- R > 38 kOhm --> error in the Bucky wall stand, check jumper D30.X4.(2+3) or the ter-
minal resistor on X43 is missing if no Bucky wall stand is connected.
• Remove the test adapter and plug the X41 connector back in.

NOTE The table is always shipped with a terminal connector on D54.X43.

The terminal connector must be removed only if a Bucky wall
stand is connected during installation.
If a control unit (remote controller) is connected to the Bucky wall
stand, the D30.X4 jumper must be moved from 1+2 to 2+3 in the
Bucky insert. The terminal resistor is then located in the control
unit.

Checking the Primary Cables to the D50 Host and D51 Tomo Controller
• Unplug the X40 and X41 connectors on the D54 backplane (1/Fig. 4 / p. 13).
• Connect the test adapter to X40.
• Resistance measurement at contacts 7 + 8:
- In systems without tomo (only D50), R > 38 kOhm --> OK
- In systems with tomo (D50 and D51), R > 19 kOhm --> OK
- R ~ 120 / 60 Ohm --> error on D50.X8.(2+3) or D51.X4.(2+3); check the jumper.
• Remove the test adapter and plug the X40 and X41 connectors back in.

Checking the Ceiling Stand with D14 and Collimator

NOTE With the MULTIX TOP manual with D13 and D54 backplane, a ter-
minal resistor with 120 Ohm must be plugged in on D54.X40.

MULTIX PRO/TOP RXB1-140.840.01.04.02 Page 14 of 22 Siemens AG

• Remove the X35 (1/Fig. 5 / p. 15) and X36 (2/Fig. 5 / p. 15) connectors on the D14
board.

Fig. 5: D14
• Connect the test adapter to X35.
• Resistance measurement at contacts 7 + 8:
- R ~ 120 Ohm --> OK, for the manual collimator, D14.X30. or X110. (1+2)
(3/Fig. 5 / p. 15)
- R > 38 kOhm --> OK, for the digital collimator, D14.X30. or X110. (2+3)
• For ACSS versions, plug the D14.X36 connector back in.
• Resistance measurement at X35, contacts 7 + 8
- R ~ 120 Ohm --> OK
- R > 38 KOhm --> error in the collimator, check jumper D1.X12. (1+2).
• Remove the test adapter and plug the D14.X35 connector back in.

Checking the Column Stand with D29 and Collimator

NOTE With the MULTIX PRO FIX without the D29 and D54 backplane, a
terminal resistor with 120 Ohm must be plugged in on D54.X40.

16 Troubleshooting Instructions

• Unplug the X5 (1/Fig. 6 / p. 16) and X6 (2/Fig. 6 / p. 16) connectors on the D29 board.

Fig. 6: D29
• Connect the test adapter to D29.X5.
• Resistance measurement at contacts 7 + 8:
- R ~ 120 Ohm --> OK, for the manual collimator, D29.X11.(1+2) see (3/Fig. 6 / p. 16).
- R > 38 kOhm --> OK, for the digital collimator, D29.X11.(2+3)
• For ACSS versions, plug the D29.X6 connector back in.
• Resistance measurement at X5, contacts 7 + 8
- R ~ 120 Ohm --> OK
- R > 38 kOhm --> error in the collimator, check jumper D1.X12. (1+2).
• Remove the test adapter and plug the D29.X5 connector back in.
