Functionalism is a theory that sees society as a complex system whose parts work together to
promote solidarity and stability. Functionalism addresses a collective society and not individuals -- the
“big picture” approach.

Using the Structural Functionalist approach, analyze the impact of COVID-19 on


society as a whole.

Part 2: Theoretical Perspective - Conflict Theory (7 points)


Conflict theory is a general approach to examining differences in power. Marxist Conflict Theory ($)
examines how class conflict creates and perpetuates power divisions and resource inequalities – “the
haves and the have-nots.” Non-Marxist Conflict Theory examines the power dynamic of subjective
interpretations (opinions) – whose belief is “correct” or whose opinion is “right”?

Music has long been a powerful force for social change. Protest songs have served as anthems
regarding war, racism, sexism, ecological destruction, and so many other crucial issues.

The conflict beig referenced to is when Eminem was facing multiple law suits for his lyrics
where his music was played references to real people events and previously private
information and his removable from mtv id call it Marxist because of previous songs talking
about wealth and position in the world as the artist making this music started about as low
as someone living in America can and was even shunned by the rap community as a skinny
white guy without money seemed like he wouldn’t live long in that space and if he managed
to survive he wouldn’t make it far but with bar after bar his music career thrived and he
became recognize as one of if not the greatest rappers of all time he’s know for the wide
crazy unheard unwritten lyrics he came up with often times on the fly using things no one
had tied toother before

Symbolic Interactionism is an approach that considers how individuals code or define their world
through social interaction. Each person must learn how to use and interact with symbols to
understand context, tone, multiple meanings, nuances, etc. Interactionism considers the subjective
“human” element in the social sciences and is most closely related to social psychology.

So I had a close friend say we should go out in flirty way and I took it as a joke so the
misunderstanding resulted in our accidental distancing and it made me feel bad and confused
through the situation however, after a later reconnection between the two of us, we realize the
misunderstanding and became quite good friends again, but the embarrassment still lingered as it
was an uncomfortable topic and was unexpected as neither of us knew really at that age what to do
with such a situation but alls well that ends well in the end so im glad things worked out overall
