A.1.2. LET THE YOUTH BE HEARD: ACTIVISM AND THE ROLE OF YOUNG CITIZENS IN SOCIAL CHANGE

1. Does activism or social movements create positive results? Why or why not?

- Basically, there are numerous positive results in joining social movements as it emphasizes the issues
and concerns of people that is needed to heard by government officials and for the people to recognize
our rights to address the different issues. Activism gives you more power over a person`s life and helps
you overcome the feeling of helplessness and hopelessness. It may be one way to alleviate poverty,
improving health care and improvement in the overall level of freedom because it draws attention to
the issue and puts pressure on our political leaders to make changes. Furthermore, participating in
activism may feel better than simply complaining about things without doing anything about it.

2. Why should young people become advocates and active citizens?

- We must become an advocate and active citizen in our community to increase our sense of belonging
in the society and to assist others in their efforts, particularly during pandemics. Young people should be
informed and be knowledgeable that we need to strengthen our human rights, there should be better
healthcare, better social security as well as better access to education and feeling to get heard. It is
critical to engage in activism in order for our rich political elite to become aware of the problem and
take steps to address the education issue in order to improve the overall future prospects for those
young people.

3. How does activism relate to democracy?

- We can relate democracy to activism for the reason that democracy provides an environment that
respects human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as the exercise of people to freely expressed
will and activism is taking direct action to achieve social goals and increase public awareness of issues
and call for political action and change from an often-hesitant political system. In democracy as well as
activism, we have the freedom to speak for our rights and be heard.
