05 Laboratory Exercise 1
05 Laboratory Exercise 1
Laboratory Exercise
Code Converter
Objectives:
At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to:
Analyze the operation of a latch flip-flop made from NAND or NOR gates; and
Constructed a latch flip-flop from NAND or NOR gates.
Materials:
2 74LS04 TTL Hex Inverter IC
2 Quad 2 – input AND gate (74LS08)
2 Quad 2 – input OR gate (74LS32)
2 Quad 2 – input NAND Gates (74LS00)
2 Quad 2 – input NOR Gates (74LS02)
2 Quad 2 – input X-OR gate (74LS86)
2 Quad 2 – input X-NOR gate (74LS266)
4 LED’s (Light Emitting Diode)
1 Connecting wires
1 Breadboard
1 Power Supply (Output voltage – DC 5V)
Procedures:
Note: Please observe safety precautions and proper handling of materials and equipment while conducting the
laboratory experiment. This experiment is to be performed under an instructor’s supervision.
1. Refer to the table below. Consider CODE 1 as the input code and CODE 2 as the output code.
CODE 1 CODE 2
2421 BCD
BCD GRAY CODE
BCD SQUARE OF THE INPUT
2. Simplify the output code through K-mapping or algebraic manipulation method concerning the input
code. Make sure to obtain the simplified output function.
3. Design the logic diagram based on the given input and simplified output function.
4. Recreate your design on a breadboard using the appropriate materials.
5. Test your design on the breadboard concerning the corresponding truth table of your design.
6. Repeat Steps 1-5, but use the reverse of the given codes.
