LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS-4

I. Objective :
 Describe and illustrate parallel, intersecting, perpendicular lines.

II. Learning Content :

 Describing and illustrating parallel, intersecting, perpendicular lines.

Materials : PowerPoint presentation, ruler, cut outs of lines

References : K to 12 Grade 4 curriculum Guide, LM Math Grade 4, pp 155-156

Value Focus : Orderliness

III. Instructional Procedure :

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill/Review
Get a pencil and ruler, draw lines by connecting the given points. Copy the set of point needed in a
separate space before you draw the lines. Do it in a sheet of paper.
2. Motivation
Have a game on “ Mystery box game”
B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Look at the figure below and try to describe the point in the line.

The figure shows line AB and line BC meet at point B.

These are called intersecting line. Intersecting lines are lines that
Meet at a point.

Parallel lines are lines in the same plane that will never intersect.
They have the same distance apart at all times.

Perpendicular lines are two lines that intersect and form a right angle.

2. Performing the activities

Group the pupils into 3 teams, Each group to work together in illustrating the given figures to show
the different kind of lines. Draw each pair of lines using ruler

Group 1 : Line AB is intersect to Line PQ

Group 2 : Line CD is perpendicular to Line JK
Group 3 : Line LM is parallel to NO

After all groups have finished, ask them to display their outputs on the board. Let them tell
something about the figures that they formed and what kind of line each figure show?
3. Processing the activities
After all groups have represented their output, ask “How did you find the activity? How were you
able to illustrate the given figure to you” Did you cooperate with your groupmates?”
Discuss with the pupils the different kind of lines namely : parallel, intersecting and
perpendicular lines.
4. Reinforcing the Concept and Skills
Do the following activities, write your answer in a sheet of paper

Activity 1: Read the following question. Write the letter of the correct answer in a sheet of paper.
Activity 2: Given the figure in the box, determine whether the lines are intersecting, parallel or
perpendicular. Write A for Intersecting lines, B for parallel lines and C for perpendicular lines.

Activity 3: Draw the following lines in the box and identify the lines formed.

5. Summarizing the Lesson

Lead the pupils in generalizing what parallel lines, intersecting lines, and perpendicular lines are.

Parallel Lines are lines that do not meet. Intersecting Lines are lines that cross each
other. Perpendicular Lines are lines that intersect and form square corners.

6. Applying to new and other situations

Tell the kind of lines referred to each item.
1. Capital letter H 4. Hands of a clock at 3:30
2. Capital letter X 5. Corner of a black board
3. Checkered T-Shirt

IV. Assessment

1. Which pair of lines are parallel lines?

a. b. c. d.

2. Which of the following shows perpendicular lines?

a. b. c. d.

3. Which figure illustrates intersecting lines?

a. b. c. d.

4. Which situation tells about parallel lines?

a. Capital letter L c. Corner of a table
b. Hands of a clock at 6:00 d. Striped T-shirt
5. Which is not a true statement?
a. Two intersecting lines meet at one point.
b. Perpendicular lines form square corners.
c. Parallel lines do not meet.
