COURSE SYLLABUS IN FS – 2
(FIELD STUDY 4-6)
I. CREDIT: 3units SEMESTER: 1 ST SCHOOL YEAR: 2022-2023 TIME DURATION: 54
hrs

II. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course shall allow students to apply and verify knowledge
gained on curriculum development through exposure to the existing curriculum. It shall provide
insights to students on how the curriculum can be effectively implemented. Allowsstudents to
have hands-on experiences in selecting, constructing and evaluating conventional, authentic and
alternative assessment tools used in the learning environment based on the principles of testing.
And also to complement the professional education subject, THE TEACHING PROFESSION.
It shall bring about real life and vicarious experiences of a prospective teacher with emphasis on
the characteristics of a teacher as a person and as a professional. It shall provide a wide array of
opportunities for self-reflection that would prepare one to become a student teacher.

III. OBJECTIVES
1. Observe best practices in the effective implementation of the curriculum.
2. Develop insights on the implementation of the curricular programs at different educational
levels.
3. Apply knowledge learned about the different curricular designs.
4. Select, construct and evaluate assessment tools used in the learning environment.
5. Reflect on the importance of teacher’s knowledge and skills, I the use of different
assessment tools.
6. Expressed one’s view on the use of the different forms of assessment.
7. Describe the characteristics of a teacher as a person.
8. Identify the competencies that make up a professional teacher in the classroom, in the
community, and in the world.
9. Document best practices of outstanding teachers.
10. Clarify one’s personal values, attitude and beliefs about teaching.

IV. ACTIVITIES
 First Session (3 hrs.) Focus: Vision, Mission of the School
• Get a copy of the vision, mission of the school where you are assigned.
• Analyze the vision and mission of the school relative to the existing school curriculum.
• Come up with an analysis report.

 Second Session (3 hrs.) Focus: Resource Materials and the Curriculum


• Request a copy of textbook, workbook and other supplementary materials used by the
class. • Examine the aforementioned resources in relation to the existing school
curriculum.
• Reflect on how resource materials support the implementation of the school curriculum.
 Third Session (3 hrs.) Focus: Class Program and the Curriculum
• Request a copy of the class schedule, room assignment and teacher’s assignment.
• Observe how the class schedule, room assignment and teacher’s assignment contribute
in the effective implementation of the school curriculum.
• Validate your observations through interview.
 Fourth & Fifth Sessions (6 hrs.) Focus: Personal Insights
• Reflect on how the foregoing items contribute to the effective implementation of the
school curriculum: - Use variety of appropriate assessment strategies to monitor and
evaluate learning. - Mastery of the subject matter. - Communication of clear learning
goals for the lesson that is appropriate for learners. - Good use of allotted instructional
time. - Selection of teaching methods, learning of activities and instructional materials or
resource appropriate to learners and aligned to the objectives of the lesson.
 First Session (3 hrs.) Focus: Assessment Tools
• Observe three (3) classes and find out the assessment tools used by the teachers. • Lists
down the assessment tools used in the class; site examples.
• Write reflective journal on assessment tools. ➢ Second Session (3 hrs.) Focus :
Evaluation Process
• Observe a class and focus on the evaluation part of the lesson.
• Copy test direction and three to five items of the formative objective and non-objective
quizzes used in the classroom.
• Evaluate the items using checklist in the worksheet.
 Third Session (3 hrs.) Focus: Teacher’s Experiences toward Authentic Assessment
• Interview 3 teachers on their experiences regarding the use of authentic assessment.
• Ask about the benefits and challenges the teachers experienced on the use of authentic
assessment.
• Write a reflective journal on this activity.
 Fourth Session (3 hrs.) Focus: Performance Based Activity
• Observe a class. Identify performance-based activities conducted.
• Choose one from among those and develop a process-oriented rubric.
 Fifth Session (3 hrs.) Focus: Performance Based Activity
• Observe a class. Identify one performance based activity conducted and device a product
oriented rubric.
 First Session (3 hrs.) Focus: The Teacher as a Person
• Develop a survey questionnaire designed to be used with pre-
school/elementary/secondary students to find out what personal qualities make a good
teacher.
• Administer the appropriate survey instrument in the class where you are assigned.
• Consolidate and interpret the survey results.
 Second Session (3 hrs.) Focus: The Teacher as a Professional
• Interview your cooperating teacher to find out who or what contributed to his/her
professional growth.
• Make a professional growth timeline based on the interview.
• Write a reflective journal on this activity.
 Third Sessions (3 hrs.) Focus: The Teacher in the School Setting
• Interview your cooperating teacher regarding his/her roles and responsibility in the
school setting. Reflect on your cooperating teacher’s sharing.
 Fourth Session (3 hrs.) Focus: The Teacher in the Community
• Interview at least 3 people in the community (parents, barangay officials, officials from
community organization) on teacher’s involvement in the different community activities
as well as in the utilization of community resources in teaching.
• Reflect on the sharing of the community people.
• Make a list of expectations of community people on the teacher’s community
involvement.
• Make a list of community resources that are utilized by the teachers in teaching.
 Fifth Session (3 hrs.) Focus: The Global Teacher
• Find out through interview and research what qualifications are necessary to become a
global teacher. Make a reflection paper based on your findings.
