ASSERTION-REASON BASED QUESTIONS
In the following questions, a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a
statement of Reason (R). Choose the correct option out of the following.
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
11. Assertion (A): The height of equilateral triangle is √ 3/2a. 1
Reason (R): The side of equilateral triangle is 6 cm then the height of
triangle is 9 cm.
12. Assertion (A): The angles of a quadrilateral are x°, (x – 10)°, (x + 30)° and 1
(2x)°, the smallest angle is equal to 58°.
Reason (R): Sum of the angles of a quadrilateral is 360°.
Section B
13. Prove that if one angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of other two 2
angles, the triangle is right angled.
14. ABCD is a quadrilateral in which AD = BC and ∠DAB = 2
∠CBA. Prove that:
e) △ABD ≅ △BAC
f) BD = AC
g) ∠ABD = ∠BAC
15. Find the area of an isosceles triangle using heron’s formula. Then find 2
out the area of a triangle with two equal sides as 5 cm each and the third
side as 8 cm.
16. State the Mid-point Theorem. 2
Section C
17. Prove that sum of three angles of a triangle is 180°. 3
18. Two side AB and BC and median AM of a 3
triangle ABC are respectively equal to side PQ
and QR and median PN of △PQR, show that
△ABC ≅ △PQR.
19. Find the height of a trapezium in which parallel sides are 25 cm and 77 3
cm and non-parallel sides are 26 cm and 60 cm. Given the area of the
trapezium as 1644 cm².
20. Prove the Mid-point Theorem. 3
Section D
21. John recently read a Mathematics 4
experiment. He was keen to perform it on
its own. He chose a long building whose
height he want to know, he placed a mirror
at ground. He is standing at some distance
to the building as well as mirror. John
height is 5m and the distance of John from
mirror is 12m and distance of building from mirror is also 12m and its
height 5m.
On the basis of the above information, solve the following questions.
a) Write two congruent triangles formed in the given figure.
b) Find the distance between top of building and mirror.
c) Find the area of ΔAED.
22. A farmer has a triangular field with sides 240 4
m, 200 m and 360 m, where he grew wheat.
In another triangular field with sides 240 m,
320 m and 400 m adjacent to the previous
field, he wanted to grow potatoes and onions
(see figure). He divided the field into two parts
by joining the mid point of the longest side to
the opposite vertex and grew potatoes in one
part and onions in the other part. How much
area (in hectares) has been used for wheat,
potatoes and onions?
