Engineering Drawing Assignment (Submit hard copy by 19-11-2024)

Group Members: Make a group of Max 3 Students in each group to solve this question.
**In First page of the Report: Mention the contribution of each member according to which
marks will be given individually to each member.

Total Marks: 10

Problem Statement: Imagine you are part of a team designing a piece of industrial equipment.
The equipment requires precision placement of components, accurate scaling, and
understanding of movement paths. Use the principles of engineering drawing to solve the
following tasks.

Task 1: Line and Point Projection (4 marks)

• Draw the projections (front, top, and side views) of a pipe running through two rooms
in a factory:
o One end of the pipe is 80 mm above the floor level in Room A.
o The other end passes through the wall into Room B, located 120 mm above the
floor and 150 mm to the right.
o The pipe is inclined at an angle of 30° to the horizontal plane.
• Label all projections clearly and ensure accuracy in the angle representation.

Task 2: Engineering Scale (3 marks)

• You are provided with a blueprint that shows the layout of a machine assembly area on
a 1:75 scale. Draw a scale to measure up to 3 meters on this blueprint and then use it to
draw a 2-meter section with subdivisions of 0.5 meters.
• Provide a short explanation of why scaling is crucial in large blueprint designs and how
this scale would be used in practical engineering work.

Task 3: Engineering Curves (3 marks)

• A robotic arm in the machine operates on a cycloidal path to achieve smooth movement
across a 60 mm path. Draw the cycloidal path traced by a 20 mm diameter wheel as it
completes one full rotation.
• Label the curve and explain one practical application of cycloidal curves in robotics or
machinery.

Marking Scheme:

• Task 1: Projections accuracy, correct angle representation, and labelling (4 marks)

• Task 2: Proper construction of scale, correct measurement, and explanation (3 marks)
• Task 3: Accuracy of cycloid, construction clarity, application explanation (3 marks)
