Influencer culture in Bangladesh significantly affects consumer

behavior.
Good morning everyone, before starting my speech I want to
ask you a question. How many of you check online reviews
before making a purchase? Just like many of you, when I
wanted to buy a new phone, I felt confused and turned to
online reviews and comparison videos to help me decide. Most
of those videos were created by influencers or content
creators, and watching them helped me make my choice.
However this influencer culture is often looked down upon in
Bangladesh, with People believing influencers have no impact
and merely post online. But it is not the case, Influencer culture
in Bangladesh significantly affects consumer behavior.

What is an Influencer?
Before getting into it lets understand what is an influencer?
Influencers are individuals with large online followings who
promotes products on platforms like Instagram, Facebook,
YouTube, and TikTok.

The Shift from Traditional Advertising

Traditional advertising is becoming less effective because it’s

often expensive, less interactive, and has a poor conversion
rate. In contrast, Influencers build trust and influence
purchasing decisions more effectively, as people are more likely
to rely on their favorite influencers rather than traditional ads.

Emotional Connection

This Emotional connections with influencers make them more

relatable than celebrities, who often seem distant, Celebrities
often seem to alienate us, right? I mean it seems impossible to
reach their height. Research shows 70% of consumers trust
peer recommendations more than ads.

For example recently many influencers are posting with this

particular phone(show on slide) from redmi obv for
promotional purposes. So Last week when I went to jamuna I
saw queue of people standing infront of redmi shop to buy this
phone because they were inspired by their beloved influencers.

Brand Partnerships

This is why Brands often partner with influencers because they

follow the current trend and can interact with their own
audience. like Salman Muqtadir, whose engaging content
boosts visibility and sales. Salman has worked with PizzaBurg
for a long time, significantly increasing the restaurant's
popularity through his humor and relatable content.

Unlike celebrities and traditional advertisements which can be

out of reach of small business companies, influencers also
promote local or small brands giving them the visibility and
reach they need.

Market Growth

From the above cumulative data, we can see how the

influencer marketing platform market is projected to rise from

$19.48 billion in 2023 to $338.64 billion by 2033, reshaping

consumer behavior and digital marketing strategies.

Transparency and Responsibility

However When influencer marketing really started gaining

attraction, many brands rewarded influencers with free gifts or

experiences ,like gozayaan a travel company that hires

influencers and to take free trips in exchange for promotions.

this can lead to biased reviews if influencers prioritize the greed

over honesty.

Influencers must maintain transparency to avoid undermining

trust, their Genuine reviews are crucial for credibility.

As we can see that Consumers often seek for reviews or

suggestions online before taking a decision. When purchasing a

phone, we look for reviews; when planning a trip, we watch

vlogs; and when choosing restaurants, we read food reviews.

This connection often deepens when influencers from our own

backgrounds—like NSU students for example her(point to slide)

when is promoting brands, it will make us feel more confident

in our choices and we can rely on her.

Hence, Influencers are not just content creators; they are

trusted voices who guide purchasing decision. It’s essential to

recognize the significant role influencers play in shaping our

consumer landscape.
