SEM 2 | 3rd Quarter Notes | @cheche was here ~~★ ˙ ̟

OVERVIEW OF TANGENT AND DERIVATION OF F(X) = TAN X:

COTANGENT FUNCTIONS: ● tan f(x) is classified as an odd
● One of the basic trigonometric function
functions tan(x) = sin(x) / cos(x)
● Measures repeated occurrences tan(-x) = sin(-x) / cos(-x)
or intervals of distance = -sin(x) / cos(x)
= - [sin(x) / cos(x)]
= - tan(x)
ODD AND EVEN FUNCTIONS:
● A special category of functions BEHAVIOR OF A TAN AND COT
that determine the curvature and FUNCTION:
symmetry of a graph ● As x approaches 90°, tan(x)
increases (+∞)
ODD FUNCTIONS:
● f(-x) = -f(x)
x tan(x)
● Applies for sin, csc, tan, and cot
functions 89° 57.3°
● Symmetrical with y-axis
89.5° 114.6°

EVEN FUNCTIONS: 89.75° 229.2°

● f(x) = f(x)
● Applies only for cos and sec 89.99° 5729°
functions Table 1.1
● Symmetrical with origin
● As x approaches 180°, cot(x)
decreases (-∞)
