Shell Diala S4 ZX-I • Meets IEC 60296 - Higher Oxidation
Stability & Low Sulphur content
Shell Diala S4 ZX-I is the new electrical insulating oil from Shell designed to meet the challenges presented by the latest
power transformers. It offers an extended oil life with the peace of mind of zero sulphur content.
Shell Diala S4 ZX-I is manufactured from zero sulphur base oils produced using Shell’s GTL (gas-to-liquid) technology.
These base oils offer a high degree of compositional consistency and have an excellent response to anti-oxidant. In
addition they are globally available and free from PCBs, DBDS and passivators.
Shell Diala S4 ZX-I meets both the established and new industry copper corrosion tests.

Health, Safety & Environment
Avoid contact with skin. Use impervious gloves with used oil. After skin contact, wash immediately with soap and water.
Guidance on Health and Safety is available on the appropriate Material Safety Data Sheet, which can be obtained from your Shell
representative.
Additional Information
Storage precautions
The critical electrical properties of Shell Diala are easily compromised by trace contamination with foreign material. Typically
encountered contaminants include moisture, particles, fibres and surfactants. Therefore, it is imperative that electrical insulating oils
be kept clean and dry.
It is strongly recommended that storage containers be dedicated for electrical service and include air-tight seals. It is further
recommended that electrical insulating oils are stored indoors in climate-controlled environments.

To test Nebar grades:- Grey, White, Purple, Orange, Red and N75.
All grades of Nebar were 3mm thick with the excepon of N75 (4mm).

Historical informaon and performance show that a small amount of posive swell
in a material provides the best sealing system. The logic being that over me as
compression set takes place this is countered by the natural swell of the sealing
product. Too much swell typically causes the sealing product to soen and rupture,
likewise negave swell may lead to hardening of the material and a reducon in
the sealing pressure. This may differ for certain applicaons but this holds true for
most sealing applicaons.
The compressibility and recovery results indicate that Nebar Orange and Purple
may be unsuitable for sealing applicaons in the presence of Nynas Nytro 10XN,
despite comparable volume swell. The figures show a marked reducon in
comparison to White and Red.
It is important to note that the range of Nebar products have been developed over
me to cover a range of applicaons which goes beyond just the oil resistance. The
sealing pressures and hardness of the flanges must also be taken into consideraon
when choosing the most suitable grades.
Based on these results the following conclusions may be drawn; that when
compared with standard test results.
Nebars Grey, Red and White appear to be the most suitable for use with Nynas
Nytro 10XN oil.
Nebars Grey, Orange, White and N75 appear to be the most suitable for use with
Diala S4 ZX-1 oil.

Dear reader,
Shell Diala S4 ZX-I and Diala S4 ZX-IG are typically miscible and compatible with other Shell Diala
types as Diala S5 BD, Diala D/DX, Diala B, Diala S2 ZU-I, Diala S2 ZX-A, Diala S3 ZX-I/IG as well as
with other conventional mineral oil-based transformer oils (as described in the IEC 60296).
In case of topping up and mixing with heavily aged oil, consider the IEC 60422 for further guidance
on miscibility.
Yours sincerely
