IN COLLABORATION WITH HERITAGE FOUNDATION, GUWAHATI

CONCEPT NOTE
Introduction
The Govt. College Seppa was established in 2010. Since its inception the college is striving ahead as a
centre of learning for fulfilling the aspirations of the youths of the district in particular and state as a
whole for learning of higher education in the country. The motto of the college emblem is “Learn to
Educate” which means after getting all kinds of knowledge through holistic education; the society will be
enlightened and civilized. The college has its own website: www.gcseppa.com. The college is affiliated
to Rajiv Gandhi University Rono Hills, Doimukh with having undergraduate courses in English, Hindi,
History, Political Science, Education, and Economics under Semester system with old syllabus structure,
CBCS, NEP-2020 syllabus framed by Rajiv Gandhi University. The college is located in Wessang, 9 km
distance from the district H.Q. Seppa town. There is one academic block with 10 class rooms along with
an administrative building. The reading materials having four magazines subscribed, three news papers
subscribed with 3500 books.
The Heritage Foundation is Guwhati based research and academic oriented activities working to
promote and strengthen the Indigenous Eternal Faith and Culture of the different ethnic communities of
the Northeast Bharat in accordance with their respective faiths and beliefs.
The organization has been working in the field of documentation and preservation of
Cultural Heritages of North East Bharat in particular and the country in general from its
inception. The Heritage Foundation also runs a publication wing under the banner of
Heritage Publication and is dedicated to the objective of publication of Books and
journals on tribal traditions, cultures and heritages in local languages and dialects. The
Heritage Publication has so far published more than 150 books in Assamese, Bengali,
English and various tribal languages of North East with special emphasis on Tradition,
Culture, Spiritual beliefs and heritage of the tribal communities of North East India.
About the Seminar
The proposed seminar is to understand about traditional knowledge system of indigenous ethnic groups
of Arunachal Pradesh with its relevant in present context.
The term tradition has derives from the Latin word ‘traditio’ meaning handing down, handing over,
delivery, surrender etc. which is handed down from person to person or from generation to generation.
It includes both the process and the product. Accordingly, to transfer or deliver from generation to
generation of every aspect of any particular ethnic or community is called tradition.
The tradition which is cumulative social heritage in the form of habits, customs, attitudes and ways of life
is transmitted from generation to generation either through written scriptures or through word of
mouth. The tradition transmitted through word of mouth is called oral tradition which is generally found
and practiced in the tribal people of the Arunachal Pradesh.
The tradition as adaptive and cumulative political heritage which regulates the society and people and
accepted by the concerned group which is time honoured and is transmitted from generation to
generation through socialization process
Aims and Objectives:
The following are the objectives of the proposed one-day seminar;
To disseminate the meaning of tradition among the students.
To understand the philosophy of traditional knowledge system of various ethnic groups of Arunachal
Pradesh.
To understand the relevant of traditional system in the modern days life.
To promote the concept of effective traditional knowledge for character building of youths.
To facilitate the exchange of research findings and promote best traditional knowledge practices in the
society.
The target audience would consist of intellectual class, college and university teachers, students,
academic administrators, policy makers and researchers etc. to understand best possible traditional
knowledge system for nation building.
Sub-Themes:
The seminar would consist of the following Sub-themes:-
Concept of Traditional Knowledge system,
Traditional Knowledge System of any tribe of Arunachal Pradesh,
Uses of Traditional Knowledge system in day to day life of any community,
Scope of Traditional Knowledge System in modern society,
Challenges of Traditional Knowledge System in era of modern medicine,
Scope of Research Activities about any community traditional knowledge system,
Expected Outcomes:
The seminar will provide new perspectives to understand traditional knowledge of Arunachal Pradesh
with special reference to every indigenous ethnic group. The relevance of indigenous knowledge system
will be beneficial for researchers, policy makers and administrator for incorporation in the governance
system of the state and the county. The seminar findings will be documented for future references so
that it will help in every corner.
