LESSON 1 – NATURE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

Nature of Quantitative Research:

Quantitative research involves analyzing and gathering numerical data to uncover trends, calculate averages,
evaluate relationships, and derive overarching insights. It’s used in various fields, including the natural and
social sciences. Quantitative data analysis employs statistical techniques for processing and interpreting
numeric data.

Characteristics of Quantitative Research :

- Structured tools: Quantitative research relies on structured tools such as surveys, polls, or questionnaires
to gather quantitative data.
- Sample size: Quantitative research is conducted on a significant sample size representing target market.
- Close-ended questions: Closed-ended questions, specifically designed to align with the research
objectives, are a cornerstone of quantitative research.
- Prior studies: Before collecting feedback from respondents, researchers often delve into previous studies
related to the research topic.
- Quantitative data: Typically, quantitative data is represented using tables, charts, graphs, or other
numerical forms.
- Generalization of results: One of the strengths of quantitative research is its ability to generalize results
to the entire population.

LESSON 2 – IMPORTANCE OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

The methodical process of gathering data through online polls surveys and questionnaires is known as
quantitative research. It is collected from both current and prospective clients and customers and it is
represented numerically. Generally speaking disciplines like political science gender studies marketing
sociology economics psychology demography and education use quantitative research. Its goal is to apply
mathematical theories to phenomena.
The procedure provides a link between empirical observation and mathematical expression. A numerical
system is used in quantitative research to measure analyze and report relationships between the variables under
study. Understanding the numbers makes it easier for people to make the appropriate changes so its goal is to
comprehend analyze describe and forecast a product or service in the future. Concentrating on convergent
reasoning and detailed static data it deals with objectivity logic and numerical data.
Quantitative research uses structured research methods to gather data and its conclusions are based on larger
samples that are meant to represent or reflect the population. This type of research can be replicated which is an
important feature. To ensure that the data gathered is accurate and dependable the research studys questions
have been clearly defined and every part of it has been carefully planned.
