Overview
Purpose In this training, you will learn what Learning and Development is all about
and how it can help you in sustaining a successful professional career in the
IT-BPM industry. Moreover, this module will provide ways by which you
can take charge of your own learning and development.

The act or process of growing or causing something to grow, become larger or more

Keep in mind that the greatest asset of a company is its People. The people
and/or employees working in an organization are considered the greatest
asset because they make things happen – they are the ones who face and
satisfy the customers and clients in an organization.

program. This means that you are the one in-charge of your own growth
and success.

That when looking for a mentor, make sure he is of a higher level and
works in the same field. The work experience of such a mentor is valuable.

Even your role models have role models. That is how important it is in
helping shape your professional career.

As a professional, there are online courses you can enroll in, useful web
sites that provide material you can print and read for later use. It is more
convenient nowadays to do a self-paced study and, most of the time, it is
done online.
You are responsible for your own learning and development. Although I
most companies, your career path can be mapped out at the onset, there
are times when it depends on how you see yourself as a contributor in the
organization. Sometimes you may be given a responsibility that you
initially feel you are not that prepared for. But you will need to step up
and do the best you can through study.
Transition Before proceeding to the next topic, ask the participants if they
have any questions – entertain questions and park those that you cannot
answer. Make sure to get back to them with an answer the next day.

Goal Setting is used in the industry to keep the employee motivated, for
the employee to have a sense of fulfillment particularly if the goals set
are met or even exceeded.

How do you know you’re setting the right goals? Your goals must be
S.M.A.R.T.
Specific - Be clear and unambiguous when setting your goal. Don’t leave
room for guessing.
Measurable – Set a goal that allows you to measure that it is being
achieved.
Attainable – Ask yourself, “Is this realistic and attainable?”
Relevant – Create a goal with importance and meaning. Make sure the
effort is worth it to you.
Time-bound – Commit to a deadline. Open-ended goals tend to be
forgotten

is now a fad and being used not only as a Social Networking web site, but
also as a means for others to establish their professional network with
business, individuals, and non-profit organizations, to name a few.

1. It will allow you to exchange ideas with these groups and, at the
same time, provide you the opportunity for growth. Some
professional groups conduct free seminars; if you are a member of
the group, you may even avail of discounts for their services. These
are just some of the benefits of establishing a professional
network/ acquaintances. In short you gain access to industry best
practices.

Lastly, participate and volunteer when you can. Volunteering for a work-
related activity allows you to market your skills and be exposed to different
aspects of your profession.
Whenever you have free time and you feel that you are capable skill-wise
and will benefit from volunteering, by all means go ahead and participate.
