Scholarship Interview questions

Introduce yourself:

Thank you so much for considering my application for interview. I am very excited for this opportunity
and I really look forward to you.
I am Adnan Ali from Sargodha, Pakistan. I did my BSC in Mining Engineering from university of
Engineering and Technology Lahore, Pakistan. I was the topper of my class with CGPA 3.719/4.0 and
awarded degree with honor. I did my BSc thesis in mineral processing on the topic of extraction of
copper from waste printed circuit boards through leaching using Novel Sustainable Deep Eutectic
Solvents of organic acids. Additionally, I have research experience and I wrote three original Manuscript
of Research paper. I have submitted one paper in journal of cleaner production recently. Remaining are in
progress which will be submit in next month. I love to watch foreign seasons and reading books.
My short term goals are I want work as a research assistant in lab because in the long term goals are I
want to build processing plant to recycle electronic waste in Lahore which will replace the local methods
which already used to recycle electronic waste. These methods has negative effect on environment. To
achieve my goals I want gain complete knowledge in this field. That’s way I want do master degree.
Why you choose this program?
There are two reasons to choose this program. First of all the courses that this program offer 10 percent of
courses like material syenthesis and characterization matches with my previous subjects and I was good
in these subjects and I topped in the class. The second reason to choose this program is that this program
is matches with my research work and my goals. I have done research and I have knowledge till leaching
and after that for separation process is needed membrane to separate copper from other metals. The high
quietly separation is not possible without the membrane technology. This technology is very important to
me to complete my expertise in recycling of electronic waste. I read literature I found lots to paper in
membrane is use to recover rare earth elements. My future goals also allaiened with this program, I want
to build recycling of electronic waste processing plant in Lahore which will recycle 20% of waste. So
after doing my master in Membtrane engineering I will learn downstream process as I said have done
work up to leaching. I will be able to build processing plant using membrane. That’s the reason to chose
this program.
As I said the main aim this program is also similar to develop environmental friendly process. This was
not easy work.I faced lots of problem in making it. I solved all the problems by myself. Finally I
performed all the experiments and sent my sample for Atomic absorption spectroscopy. I got very good
results it separate 92% copper which increased my more interest in that field. I started two more projects
as I mentioned extraction of rare earth elements from coal ash and extraction zinc from industrial waste.
This program also focus on sustainability. So, this increased my interest in the field of membrane. I have
basic knowledge and I want to gain expertise. This program is aliened with my goals.

For example when I started my first internship at Maple leaf cement plant Mianwali Pakistan where I
explored the processing of Gypsum and Limestone which increased my interest in the field of processing
and I decided to do my graduation thesis in mineral processing. Then I discussed with my research
advisor which project should I chose. Then he told me different project like extraction of rare earth
elements from coal ash and recycling of waste printed circuits boards. The waste printed circuit boards
contain gold, copper. I was very exciting that I am extracting golds. So I picked the topic as I mentioned
above extraction of copper from Waste printed circuit boards of computer through leaching.
How you can adjust with European culture:
I have been living in hostel for four years during my graduation. I know how I can care myself physically
and mentally. I know how I diversity is important. In my university also a lot of international students
came from sudan, Afghanistan, Shamalia. I always enjoyed by talk to them there culture their language.
One of students was my roommate also and I always loved to have conversation with him.Two students
from Afghanistan were my class fellow I have strong bonding with them. The reason that attract me
Erasmus program is that it give me the opportunity to explore different culture in very short time. So I am
exciting to explore European culture. By visiting different country it will not give me chance to learn
modern study also it will enhance my way of thinking.

When you don’t know the answer of question:

When I was working on this project this particular thing was not direct in the scope of project I never got
into detail. However what you are saying is quite interesting, I will read more about this and I can get
back you as well.At this time I don’t know about the precise answer.
Why you chose this track?
The reason to choose this track is because I have previous educational background in the related field
materials.I have done lot of works in chemicals and I am good in management. I want continue my study
in the field of Membrane although I have not knowledge in the field of membrane I would like to
diversify my own knowledge because it has lot of applications. I am curious to explore more in this field
want to learn modern technologies and want to gain complete knowledge in this field.

Membrane Materials
Membrane Chemical Engineering
Membrane Technologies and Project Management

Do you any knowledge about membrane:

A membrane is a thin section of material that acts as a phase separator. The membrane may be a solid,
such as natural cell walls in biolog- ical processes, or the synthetic polymers used for gas separations and
water.
I have some questions if you can answer?
If I will select for this program I will study all the technologies and courses theoretically or It will give
me chance to work in industry as well.
What about the working environment?

I have gone through your web and I read courses 7 courses are directly related to membrane
engineering 5 percent courses directly related to membrane and directly courses related. I am good at
these subjects that’s why I won three gold medals.
