2024 should consist of at least 200 pages. It can not be adapted or abridged
(shortened version). The language level of the book should be Intermediate or

It is recommended that the book has a physical (printed) copy. If you borrow a

numerous pages.

Tip: For the first time read, do not choose self-help books or
biographies/autobiographies, as it will be difficult to talk about the book later

2024 requirements and tips on how to organise a diary below this table.

You will have to bring the diary to class upon the teacher’s request. The points

2025…
HOW TO ORGANIZE A READER’S DIARY
Start by stating:
1. GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE BOOK:
Title
Author
Number of pages
First published: where/when?

2. INFORMATION ABOUT THE AUTHOR (on a separate page)

Give essential facts from the author’s biography: life, career, major works.

3. STORY TIMELINE (on a separate page)

In the process of reading the book, you will have to put the main events on the story timeline. Choose
the events, which in your opinion are important for the story development, and put those on a timeline.

4. Make a list of MAIN CHARACTERS on a separate page.

Give the name of the character, define, who this person is. Describe him/her (appearance, qualities of
character, etc.)
Add the new information as the story develops. Make sure to add some quotes to illustrate.
If the book has many characters, pick the ones that you would like to describe. You don’t have to
describe ALL the characters.

5. On a separate page write the most important references to TIME (when the story is set, e.g. - present,
past, future, historical time) AND SETTING (where the story is set)
of the book. Add quotes to illustrate.

6. SUMMARY OF THE EVENTS

Divide the book evenly in five parts, for example, if a book has 20 chapters, then write a summary after
each 4 chapters). If there are no chapters, divide the pages evenly (if a book has 250 pages, for example,
then write a summary after each 50 pages).

The summaries should be 10-15 sentences long. Each summary should include a quote. You have to
explain, why this quote is important (what does it bring to the story line?)

7. VOCABULARY
For each summary that you write, write out at least 6 unknown words according to the table:

Word Meaning/definition in Translation Synonyms Page nr.

the book context

8. IDEAS AND COMMENTS:

When you finish reading the book, choose a new page and comment on the following: Why was the story
written? What is the message of the story? Did the author succeed in getting the message across?
What was it like to read? How would you describe the story? What did you like the most? What was annoying?
How did you feel while reading? Who would you recommend it to?
9. OTHER FORMS OF ART
If there is a movie based on this book, watch the movie and comment on the following:
- What did you like better, the book or the movie? Why?
- What was different and what was similar?
- Were there any changes in characters/plot?
