8. The scale of a map is 1:50,000. Find the actual area in hectares of a region represented by

10. A Kenyan bank buys and sells foreign currency as shown below.
A Japanese travelled from France to Kenya with 5000 Euros which he converted to kshs
at the bank. While in Kenya he spent a total of ksh 289850 and then converted the
remaining ksh to Japanese Yen. How much did he receive? (3 marks)
11. A mother is now 2 ½ times as old as her daughter Mary. 4 years ago the ratio of their
ages was 3:1. Find the present age of the mother. (3 marks)

12. A square room is covered by a number of whole rectangular slabs of sides 50cm by
32cm. Calculate the least possible area of the room in square metres and hence find the
number of tiles used. (3 marks)
13. Three police posts X, Y and Z are such that Y is 50km on a bearing of 060 o from X while
Z is 70km from Y on a bearing of 300o from X.
a) Using a scale of 1cm rep 10km, show the positions at X, Y and Z. (3 marks)
14. John took 3 hours 15 minutes to cycle from Ziwe to Bungoma town and 2 hours 45
minutes to cycle back to Ziwe town. What is the exact percentage change in his speed?

21. To watch a movie, a fixed amount of K sh x is charged and a further K sh y for every
movie watched. It costs sh 80 to watch 2 movies and Ksh 125 to watch 5 movies.
a) Form two equations to represent the above information. (2 marks)
b) Use matrix method to find the values of x and y and hence state the standing charge.

22. A group of women agreed to contribute Ksh 48,000 for a chama. Each was to contribute
an equal amount but before any contributions were made, 2 women withdrew from the
group. The remaining women had to contribute more money to meet their target. If n
represents the number of women originally.
a) Form an equation in terms of n to show;
i) The original amount contributed by each woman. (1 mark)
ii) The amount each contributed after the two withdrew. (1 mark)
b) If the increase in contribution per woman was Ksh 2000, find the number of women
who originally offered to contribute. (5 marks)
c) Calculate the percentage increase in contrition charge by the withdrawal of the two
women. (3 marks)
