4. A piece of copper wire is bent in the shape of an isosceles triangle. The vertical angle is

angles are 26o each. Determine ten number of sides of the polygon. (3 marks)

6. Find the equation of the normal to the curve y=2 x 3−3 x 2−12 x+12at the point
(1,-1). (3 marks)

10. A Kenyan bank buys and sells foreign currency as shown below.

A Japanese travelled from France to Kenya with 5000 Euros which he converted to kshs
at the bank. While in Kenya he spent a total of ksh 289850 and then converted the
remaining ksh to Japanese Yen. How much did he receive? (3 marks)

11. A mother is now 2 ½ times as old as her daughter Mary. 4 years ago the ratio of their
ages was 3:1. Find the present age of the mother. (3 marks)

12. A square room is covered by a number of whole rectangular slabs of sides 50cm by
32cm. Calculate the least possible area of the room in square metres and hence find the
number of tiles used. (3 marks)

13. Three police posts X, Y and Z are such that Y is 50km on a bearing of 060 o from X while
Z is 70km from Y on a bearing of 300o from X.
a) Using a scale of 1cm rep 10km, show the positions at X, Y and Z. (3 marks)

b) Determine the distance of Z from X. (1 mark)

14. John took 3 hours 15 minutes to cycle from Ziwe to Bungoma town and 2 hours 45
minutes to cycle back to Ziwe town. What is the exact percentage change in his speed?

15. The following diagram represents circle ABCD, centre O.

17. A line L1 passes through the points (-2,3) and (-1,6) and is perpendicular to L2 at (-1,6).
a) Find the equation of L1 in the form y =mx + c. (2 marks)

b) Find the equation of L2 in the form ax +by + c=0 where a, b and c are integers.
(2 marks)

c) Given that L3 is parallel to L1 and passes through point (1,2).


Find the coordinates of the x∧the y−¿ intercept of L3. (3 marks)

d) Find the point of intersection of L2 and L3. (3 marks)

18. A conical flask comprises of a bottom in the shape of a frustum of a cone and a top in
the shape of a cylinder. The base and the top diameters of the frustum are 8.4cm and
3.5cm and the height of the frustum is 8.4cm. the height of the cylindrical part is 5cm.

metres in 40 seconds.

20. The diagram below is a quadrilateral ABCD in which CD = 8 cm, BC =11cm, AC = 13cm,
AB =4cm and angle ADC =80o.

(a) Calculate the size of angle ACD (3 marks)

(b) Calculate the length of side AD (2 marks)

(c) Calculate the size of angle ACB (3 marks)

(d) Calculate the area of the quadrilateral ABCD (3 marks)

21. To watch a movie, a fixed amount of K sh x is charged and a further K sh y for every
movie watched. It costs sh 80 to watch 2 movies and Ksh 125 to watch 5 movies.
a) Form two equations to represent the above information. (2 marks)

b) Use matrix method to find the values of x and y and hence state the standing charge.
(6 marks)

c) Find the cost of watching 8 movies. (2 marks)

22. A group of women agreed to contribute Ksh 48,000 for a chama. Each was to contribute
an equal amount but before any contributions were made, 2 women withdrew from the
group. The remaining women had to contribute more money to meet their target. If n
represents the number of women originally.
a) Form an equation in terms of n to show;
i) The original amount contributed by each woman. (1 mark)

ii) The amount each contributed after the two withdrew. (1 mark)

b) If the increase in contribution per woman was Ksh 2000, find the number of women
who originally offered to contribute. (5 marks)

c) Calculate the percentage increase in contrition charge by the withdrawal of the two
women. (3 marks)

23. The vertices of a triangle are A (2,4), B(1,2) and C(5,2).


a) On the grid provided draw triangle ABC. (1 mark)

b) On the same grid, draw triangle A’B’C’, the image of ABC under positive quarter
turn about the origin and write down its coordinates. (2 marks)

c) Draw triangle A’’B’’C’’ the image of A’B’C’ under reflection in the line y=x and
write down its coordinates. (2 marks)

d) Draw triangle A’’’B’’’C’’’ the image of A’’B’’C’’ under enlargement centre (1,-3),
S.F=-2 and write down its coordinates. (3 marks)

e) Describe fully a single transformation that maps ABC onto A’’B’’C’’. (2 marks)
