SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to;

 Identify the planets in the Solar System and describe it’s characteristics
 Understand the concept of orbit and the Sun’s role in the Solar System
 Create a model of the Solar System to demonstrate planetary orbits and
distances.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic: The Solar System

b. Materials: Laptop, LED TV, Pictures, etc…
c. Reference: Curriculum Guide 6
d. Values Integration: Taking care of the planet earth

III. PROCEDURES
A. ENGAGE 1. Performing Routinary Activities
 Greetings
 Prayers
 Classroom Management
 Checking Attendance
2. Review
The students will be ask about their
prior knowledge on the solar system
3. Motivation
“ 4pics 1 word Game “
The teacher will show a various
pictures in the class. Students will
guess the word behind the pictures .

B. EXPLORE Teacher will present a brief video about the

Solar System to catch their attention and
provide a visual introduction to the topic.
Students will be ask by the following
questions according the video they watch.
“What are the different planets in our solar
system”
“What do you notice about the planets?”
C. EXPLAIN Using a PowerPoint presentation. The teacher
will discuss the Solar System and it’s
components.
 The Sun
 The Moon
 The planets
 Asteroids, and Comets
 The planetary orbits and distance

D. ELABORATE Explore and Discover!

Group Activity: The Solar System Model

The teacher will divide the class into two
groups. Each group will build a model of the
solar system and will demonstrate the
planetary orbits and distances.

Materials: Styrofoam balls(provided by the

teacher), color materials, string, large piece of
cardboard, ruler, tape, market and scissors.

Procedure:
1. Give each group a set of styrofoam balls
for creating the planets.
2. Students will paint the balls according to
the planets characteristics.
3. Students will attach each planet to a string,
and hang them in the correct order on a piece
of cardboards to represent their positions in
the solar system.
4.Using a marker they will label the each
components of the solar system .
5. Students will present their solar system
model to the front of class, and explain the
distance and planetary orbits of its different
components.
6. Teacher will give enough time and guide
the students in accomplishing the activity.
