Duties and Role:


Under the direction of the Branch Head of the Coherence Branch, the System
Monitoring Engineer will be part of the Service Management and Control (SMC)
section, implementing a new monitoring system based on Zabbix. It is the intention to
cover eight networks over various classifications containing hundreds of servers,
communication devices, and applications. The System Monitoring engineer will be
responsible in visualising the captured data, forwarding infrastructure events to trigger
automated ticket generation to prevent outages, recording capacity statistics for timely
expansion of the infrastructure, etc.
Summary of items to be monitored.

 Hardware: Dell Server infrastructure, Dell Storage Infrastructure, Firewall:


Palo Alto, Juniper, CISCO Switches, Etc.
 Servers, clusters: physical & virtual, OS: windows, Linux and VMware based
 Applications, such as but not limited to: MS-SQL server, MS Exchange, Active
Directory, Skype for Business, SharePoint farm, Citrix VDI, CommVault,
BlackBerry MDM, Web services, Oracle, Etc.
 Service monitoring: Availability, Capacity, Performance / Responsiveness, Etc.
 Integrations: DELL OpenManage, Cisco Prime, Oracle Enterprise Manager,
VMware vCenter, Etc.

Duties:

 Design and architecture the monitoring toolset to replace the current toolset;
 Implementation of the agreed design;
 Initial collection of data from all defined sources;
 Updating the configuration depending on the operational needs;
 Making dashboards and other representations of data;
 Take necessary actions to ensure all elements of IT services are monitored;
 Feeding and maintaining the connection towards BMC TrueSight to forward
selected events;
 Prepare documentation including design documents, SOPs, etc.
 Investigate and resolve issues in a systematic approach;
 Performs other duties as may be required

Skill, Knowledge & Experience:

 Required Security Clearance: NATO Secret (or equivalent) already in place


 Legal right to live and work in BELGIUM already in place
 Knowledge in cross-network monitoring architecture;
 Recent experience on design, installation and maintenance of Zabbix
environments over multiple Active Directory domains;
 Expert knowledge in Zabbix toolset in large scale client-server based
environment;
 In-depth knowledge in monitoring different aspects of the IT infrastructure and
mainstream applications;
 Excellent troubleshooting skills.
