1: First Generation (1940-1956)


Characteristics:

-Vacuum tubes (thermonic valves)

- Large size, heavy, and expensive

- Limited programming capabilities

- Used punched cards or magnetic drums for storage

- UNIVAC 1 (Universal Automatic Computer)
