Word processor

 A computer application used to create, modify,


print, and e-mail documents.
 Alignment
 A setting that refers to how text is positioned, for
example between the margins or in a cell of a table
 Header
 The area of a document between the top of the page
and the margin and is repeated on every page
 Footer
 The area of a document between the bottom of the
page and the margin and is repeated on every page
 Tab stop
 a formatting feature that allows the user to control
where a line of text will be entered and how the
text will be aligned; so that when the tab key is
pressed, the insertion point will move to that
location
 File path
 Indicates where a file is stored on the computer by
leading the user through the folder and file
organization to the file.
 Serif
 A font that has small lines at the beginning and end
of characters and that is usually used with large
amounts of text.
 Sans-serif
 A font that does not have the small line extensions
on its characters.
 House style
 A company's preferences for the presentation and
layout of written and pictorial material.
 Validation
 Checking that data entered is reasonable
 Verification
 Checking that data has been copied accurately from
one medium to another
 Proofing
 Making sure a document is accurate and free of
errors in content or layout
 Visual verification
 A type of verification where data is entered and the
original data is compared visually to the data
entered into the system
 Double data entry
 Data is entered into a system twice and the two sets
are compared to find any inconsistencies
 Gutter
 Space added to the margin to leave room for
binding
 Orientation
 Portrait or landscape
 Margin
 The space between the page content and the edges
of the page
 Widow
 The last line of a paragraph appears at the top of a
page.
 Orphan
 The first line of a paragraph that appears alone at
the bottom of a page.
 Page break
 A divider that breaks a document into separate
pages for printing.
 Column break
 Used to end a column of text. Text after the break
is moved into the next column.
 Section break
 A tool used to create layout or formatting changes
in a portion of a document.
 Line spacing
 The amount of space between lines of text
 Indentation
 To move one or more lines inward from the
margins
 Mail merge
 Is a feature that allows a user to create mass
mailings of letters, mailing labels, and other
documents and personalize the information in each
 Master document
 In a mail merge, the document that contains the
text and graphics that are for each version of the
merged document.
 Merge codes
 Instructions coded (programmed) into a mail merge
document which control the format of the merged
document and may produce different results (for
example: text or images) depending upon other
conditions.
 Source file
 In a mail merge, a data file containing the details
that will be entered into the final documents
 Wrapping
 The way in which text flows around an object in a
document
 Aspect ratio
 The relationship of width to height in a picture or
shape.
 Resize
 To change the size of a picture or graphic
 Crop removing unwanted parts of an image.
