DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

Step 1: Obtaining Data For The Rainfall Intensity

Rain intensity is the amount of rain expressed in the height

of rain or the volume of rain per unit time. The amount of intensity varies,

depending on the length of rainfall and the frequency of its occurrence. Rain

intensity is obtained by analyzing the rainfall data, both statistically and

empirically. All relevant data were used, including rainfall data received

from PAGASA and spanning a period of daily, monthly, yearly rainfall and

temperature readings from 1995-2023.

Step 2: Request Digital Elevation Model

Current land use patterns within the study area will be

analyzed using digital elevation model. The researchers in the study will use

DEM to capture the terrain of the study area which is very important input in

modelling. This data is used as input to quantify the characteristics of the

land surface. Can use elevation data to help us understand the landscape

around us, model it, plan efficient routes. This model will be validated

using historical flood data obtained from the local government unit of Roxas

Isabela.

Step 3: River Discharge

River discharge were needed in the longer term to help

identify and adapt to some of the significant potential effects of flood.

Using these two methods can help us to identify the discharge of river.

Method A: Float Method

This method involves measuring the surface velocity of the

water with a floating object. The measurement is made by measuring the time
that it takes a floating object to travel a specified distance downstream.

The method is only used of a rough estimation of the discharge due to high

level of inaccuracy of the results.

Method B: Flow Data From The LGU

These data may be obtained from existing sources such as the

LGU for more accurate information. Utilizing hydrological methods and

available data, including historical records, the maximum floods discharges

for different return periods were determined. This analysis provided insights

into the likelihood and magnitude of extreme flood events, essential for risk

assessment and infrastructure planning. Flood intensity was determined

through the analysis of historical flood data and rainfall data.

Step 4: Analyzing And Creating Flood Model Utilizing HEC-RAS Software

A descriptive and analytical method was used to investigate

the hydraulics of Roxas Isabela course, with modern techniques in

interpretation and analysis based on HEC-RAS software. HECRAS is specialized

in modeling and simulating water through natural waterways such as rivers and

industrial courses such as canals and drains, and the software can help us

calculate the movement of sediment and chemical pollutants in a stream. By

using this software we can compute the water levels and velocity in rivers

and builds one or two dimensional models to simulate the movement of water,

in either a steady or an unsteady state.
