IFUGAO PROVINCE
Ifugao farming is characterized by wet rice terraces, supplemented with slash-and-burn
farming of camote. They are famous for their Banaue Rice Terraces, which became one of the main tourist attractions in the country.For the local population, rice is the primary subsistence crop and the cornerstone of daily life. These elaborate rice terraces are cultivated by the Ifugao people in the mountains of northern Luzon, in the Philippines Ifugao culture values kinship, family ties, religious and cultural beliefs. Ifugao are unique among all ethnic groups in the mountain province for their narrative literature such as the hudhud, an epic dealing with hero ancestors sung in a poetic manner. Banaue Rice Terraces (Filipino: Hagdan-hagdang Palayan ng Banawe) are terraces that were carved into the mountains of Banaue, Ifugao, in the Philippines, by the ancestors of the Igorot people. The terraces are occasionally called the "Eighth Wonder of the World". The Ifugao people inhabit the most rugged and mountainous part of the country, high up in the central Cordillera in northern Luzon.
