Objectives:
Students will demonstrate task organization and time
management skills, along with reflecting on current
study habits and how they can improve.

Length of Lesson Plan:

1-hour

Supplies Needed:
Blank paper and pen for each student, 2-sided “Task
Organization” worksheet, 2-sided “Study Habits”
worksheet

Order of Lesson Plan:

1.) Icebreaker
2.) Transition
3.) Worksheet
4.) Worksheet
5.) Wrap up
“Organization & Time Management” Lesson Plan

1.) Icebreaker-$86,400
Give students a piece of paper and pen. Tell them to
pretend they have $86,400 to spend and to make a list of
what they would spend it on. Explain that whatever they
don’t spend they will lose, so make sure they spend it all.
Have a few students share what they spent their money on.

2.) Transition
Ask students how they decided what to spend the money
on? Was it the most important things? The most pressing or
urgent things? Help students see the connection between
the icebreaker activity and time management. Tell them
they have 86,400 seconds in each day and they need to
spend them wisely by looking at the most important things
first.

3.) Time Management

Allow students to evaluate where they are spending their
time each day. Let them plan their daily routines with the
worksheets. Show them the sample routines so they
understand how to organize their time.

4.) Worksheet-Task Organization

Give students the 2-sided Task Organization worksheet and
walk through it with them. Help them to see how to prioritize
a big list of tasks, to the most meaningful.
5.) Worksheet-Study Habits
Give students the 2-sided Study Habits survey. Have them
share their results and the plan to strengthen one of their
weak study habit areas. Have them share their plan with a
partner, or in a group.

6.) Wrap Up
Remind students that breaking tasks into smaller steps, and
prioritizing what is most important, is the first step in having
good organization and time management. It is also
important to recognize what study habit areas you can
improve upon. Give them the “List of apps that help with
organization & time management” handout to take home.
