Notes:

 The instructor has the right to change or modify the assessment questions as long as he/she is fulfilling
the specification of the listed Performance Criteria.
 If the instructor changes the questions, they have to be verified by an assessor.
 When uploading the assessments to your ePortfolio, please follow the evidence naming convention
Note: This is a practical assessment for the whole Unit the assessor will conduct each one
individually based on the unit delivery, there are three practical assessments. Many of the PCs
are repeated so the final judgment will be considered for the best achievement for the PCs.

Practical Task 01

Individual practical task

In this task, you will make a gasket for a given flange-like shown in Fig 1, you will be provided with the flange
and the tools to make a gasket.
Tools and equipment provided:
A flange as the basis for gasket shape, scissor, gasket paper or any applicable material, pencil, steel ruler,
compass, cutter, circle template, Vernier calliper, hole punch, plastic hammer
Procedure:
1. Observe safety rules at all times. Wear PPE required for the job. [PC2.4]
2. Prepare the tools needed to make a gasket. Prepare the working area and remove any hazards. [PC3.3-
PC9.3]
3. Observe and inspect the flange given by your teacher by taking the important dimension
4. Prepare the gasket paper and the marking out tools to make the layout. [PC3.3]
5. Punch the holes and cut the shape of the required gasket. [PC3.1]
6. Clean the working area after finishing the work and return the tools to their proper place.
7. Submit your finished gasket with your name along with your exam paper.

Flange Type sample or any equivalent:

Part I: You will be assessed on your procedure and skills in carrying out the task of making a gasket.
Part II: The teacher will inspect the finished gasket.
Part I: Observation checklist

proper place [PC2.9]
The time frame considered during the task
Work independently without disturbing others

Part II: Finished gasket inspection

Achieved
Criteria observed
Yes No
The general view of the finished gasket is achieved and the required shape is
attained
Circles, arcs, curves, corners are emphasized by using the instruments
All holes are divided and punched correctly
Straightness of the cut, cut to the nearest 1mm

No extra shapes, edges are seen on the gasket

No damage to the finished gasket
The name was written on the finished gasket and handed to the teacher

Practical Task 02

Team practical task

In this task, you will inspect one of the following (Lathe, drill, milling or any other machine) drive belt
transmission system and then answer some questions. you have to work in a team of up to four students, each
team member should participate in all hands-on performance criteria so the assessor can observe you doing
different activities. Each student should have his paperwork for the assessment. You should use the tools
provided by your teacher to complete this task:
1. Steel rule and straight edge (length along with pulley faces
2. Vernier calliper
3. Hand gloves
4. Safety glass
5. Spanners

Part I: Once you are clear on what to inspect, you may carry out your maintenance inspection. You will be
assessed on your procedure and skills in carrying out this task.
Part II: Answer the following questions:

No Question
Yes No
1 Measure the external diameter of the driving pulley and record your result
below. [PC6.1] D1 = Answer is based on actual pulley available in each campus,
with ±3mm tolerance.

2 Measure the external diameter of the driven pulley and record your result
below. [PC6.1] D2 = Answer is based on actual pulley available in each campus,
with ±3mm tolerance.
3 Measure the thickness of the driving pulley and record your result below.
[PC6.1] T= Answer is based on actual pulley available in each campus, with
±2mm tolerance.
4 Name the type of drive belt used in this machine. [PC6.2] Example: Vee belt or
flat belt

5 Check the pulley’s alignment and identify any misalignment types that may or
may not exist. You will write either the misalignment type or that no
misalignment had been observed. [PC6.3] Straight alignment
6 What is the drive belt deflection? [PC6.4] T = 1/64 per inch x length of center to
center of each pulley in inches = deflection setting (lathe actual belt deflection
20-25mm)
