1. Warm-Up & Homework Review (10 minutes)

•Objective: Review any previously assigned homework and clarify any doubts.
•Activity: Check the homework exercises, focusing on any sentences that use conditionals.
Correct and discuss any mistakes, briefly reviewing second and third conditional structures
as needed.

2. Introduction/Quick Review of 2nd and 3rd Conditionals (5 minutes)

•Objective: Refresh the student’s memory on the structures.
•Explanation:
•Second Conditional: Used for hypothetical situations in the present or future.
Form: If + past simple, … would + base verb
Example: “If I had more free time, I would travel around the world.”
•Third Conditional: Used for hypothetical situations in the past.
Form: If + past perfect, … would have + past participle
Example: “If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam.”

3. Controlled Practice (10 minutes)

•Objective: Strengthen comprehension of each conditional.
•Activity: Complete sentences using second and third conditionals.
•Provide half-finished sentences for the student to complete. Examples:

2.If I had known about the surprise, I…
3.If I were the president, I…
4.If they had arrived on time, we…

4. Conditional Conversation Prompts (15 minutes)

•Objective: Practice speaking and applying conditionals in realistic contexts.
•Activity: Role-play a few “What if…” situations to elicit second and third conditionals.
•Examples of prompts:
1.“What would you do if you won a free trip to any country?”
2.“How would your life be different if you hadn’t chosen your current job?”
3.“If you could meet any historical figure, who would it be and why?”
4.“How would things have changed if you had never met your best friend?”
5. Error Correction Exercise (10 minutes)
•Objective: Identify and correct mistakes in conditional sentences.
•Activity: Provide incorrect sentences for the student to correct.
•Examples:
1.“If I would have known, I will call you.” (Correction: “If I had known, I
would have called you.”)
2.“She would have passed if she studies harder.” (Correction: “She would
have passed if she had studied harder.”)

6. Personalized Writing Task (5 minutes)

•Objective: Practice using the conditionals in writing.
•Activity: Ask the student to write 2–3 sentences about a personal experience or future
desire using the second and third conditionals.

7. Review & Assign Homework (5 minutes)

•Objective: Summarize today’s lesson and assign practice for reinforcement.
•Homework: Provide exercises with a mix of second and third conditional sentences.
Alternatively, ask the student to write a short paragraph describing what they would do if
they could redo a specific event from their past.
