Characteristics of Email Communication:

● Email is a digital means of sending messages over the


internet.
● It allows for asynchronous communication, meaning users
can send and receive messages at their convenience.
● Emails can contain text, images, attachments, and
hyperlinks.
● Email addresses consist of a username followed by the
domain name of the email service provider.

● Language: Professional tone and etiquette.


● Security: Strong passwords, caution with links and
attachments.

- Respectful communication
- avoiding offensive language
- Respect boundaries of others

● CC (Carbon Copy)
● BCC (Blind Carbon Copy)
● Forwarding
● Attachments
Spam Email:

● Definition: Unsolicited or unwanted messages.


● Risks: Phishing, malware, identity theft.
● Prevention: Spam filters, cautious sharing of personal
information.
Internet Basics

● Definition: The internet is a vast global network of


interconnected computers that enables communication,
data transmission, and access to information.
● Uses: It serves various purposes such as communication
(email, messaging), research (accessing information,
databases), entertainment (streaming media, online
gaming), and commerce (e-commerce, online banking).

● Advantages: Provides access to an immense amount of


information, facilitates global communication and
collaboration, supports innovation and creativity.

● Disadvantages: Security risks such as hacking, malware,


and identity theft; reliability issues with internet
connectivity and server downtime; information overload
leading to difficulty in discerning credible sources.
Internet vs Intranet vs Extranet vs World Wide
Web (WWW):
● The internet is the global network of interconnected
computers accessible to the public.
● Intranet is a private network within an organization
accessible only to its members.
● Extranet is an extended intranet that allows limited access
to external users
● The World Wide Web (WWW) is a collection of web pages
accessible via the internet.
Blog, Forum, Wiki, Social Networking

Each serves different purposes:


- blogs for personal or professional expression
- forums for discussion on specific topics
- wikis for collaborative content creation
- social networking for connecting with others online
Functionality

● Internet Service Provider (ISP): An ISP is a company that


provides individuals and organizations with access to the
internet. They offer various types of internet connections such
as dial-up, DSL, cable, and fiber optic.

● Web Address Structure: Uniform Resource Locator (URL)


consists of a protocol (e.g., HTTP, HTTPS), domain name (e.g.,
www.example.com), and optional path to specific resources.

● Hyperlinks: Hyperlinks are clickable elements on web


pages that allow users to navigate to other web pages or
resources.

● Web Browser: A web browser is software used to access


and view web pages. Common examples include Chrome,
Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
