BACKGROUND
Microsoft Word, also known as "Word,” is software made for processing Word document
files and one of the flagship products of Microsoft. It was first released in 1983, and it has
become popular for its easy features. More than a billion devices worldwide are reportedly
running Word (Wright, 2019).
Microsoft Word contains various screen elements that help in creating your document.
These elements have different functions, and in this part, we will break down each of the
important parts of Microsoft Word. Listed below are some of the most used parts and tools of
Microsoft Word and its explanation and function, together with an example picture of the
appearance of the Microsoft Word 2019 version when it is in use for making an active document.

● Dialog Box Launcher: It is a button found in the corner of a group that if press it will
launch a dialog box containing the tools found within that group
● File Menu: The file menu will bring you to the backstage view. Under the backstage
view is where you can navigate and manage your files, under these you can create, open,
save and print documents.
● Groups: This part of the Microsoft Word contains a group of buttons that is easily
accessible. It contains the formatting paragraph buttons like alignment, spacing and
styles.
● Ribbon: This section is found across the top part of Microsoft Word. It provides access to
most of Microsoft Word’s tools, which helps you easily find the commands you need to
complete your file.
● Quick Access Toolbar: This toolbar is found on the upper left corner of the screen,
which is customizable. By default, the Quick Access Toolbar contains the Save, undo,
and Repeat buttons.
● Status Bar: A horizontal bar found at the bottom of the microsoft word that displays the
details about the document like the number of words, pages, and sections the document
contains.

● Tabs: this area on the ribbon menu tab contains buttons that are arranged in groups. The
default tabs are Home, Insert, Design, Layout, References, Mailings, Review, View, and
EndNote.
● Tell Me: This section helps users easily navigate Microsoft Word. You can simply enter
words and phrases that will help you find the function you want to use or perform. Tell
Me can also help you find what you are looking for.
● Title Bar: This bar is the top uppermost part of the document found in the middle. This
bar displays the name of the document being worked on.
● View Toolbar: This section contains various ways to view the document; it enables you
to adjust the viewing style of the document.
● Zoom: the zoom button enables you to zoom in or out your document.
