a) Course Overview and description

The aim of this course is to introduce first-year students of the information and
communication engineering programme to the historical background, fundamentals/
building blocks, current, and future trends in communication engineering. The students will
be exposed to various aspects of the programme to be explored more in-depth in higher
levels of study. The course will cover introductory topics in the fundamental theory and
applications relating to the generation, distribution, analysis, and use of information in
engineering systems. This includes fundamentals of data transmission as it concerns
telephony and television signals, internet technology (including the relevant protocol suite),
and the related government agencies guiding operations as it relates to information and
communication engineering internationally and nationally.
