Genitive case ‘s

O genitive case (caso genitivo), e also known as possessive


case (caso possessivo), it’s a characteristic of english
language.
The possessive case is used to say that something belongs
to somebody or it is associated to someone or something.
Genitive case...

....is formed by ‘s after the subject (owner) and before


the object owned.
Ex: Mary’s car. Sally’s house
Helen’s hair John’s cell phone
Genitive case
Whose is this car? This is Mary’s car / This is Mary’s.

Whose is that house? That’s Patirck’s house. /That’s Patrick’s

Whose are these shoes? These are Sally’s shoes / They’re


Sally’s

Whose cell phones are those? Those cell phones are Sue’s.
They’re Sue’s.
Genitive case….
…. is also used to talk about family relations (family tree).

Ex: Lucy’s mother Frank’s brother

Mary’s husband Paul and Mary are Helen’s children.

Gabriel’s girlfriend. John’s parents.
