1- What do we mean by services in settlements? Give examples.
They are things that people use in settlements such as shops, schools, banks, ad
sports centres
2- What are the three groups of services?
Low order services, medium order services, and high order services
3- What do we mean by the sphere of influence of a service?
It means how far people will travel to make use of that service
4- Which sphere of influence does a primary school need?
A smaller sphere of influence
5- Which sphere of influence does a secondary school need?
A medium sphere of influence
6- Which sphere of influence does a college need?
A large sphere of influence
7- What are the similar patterns of land use we usually see in big cities in Pakistan?
-They are near the centre of the settlement. - there will be a business area with
offices, large shops. – There bus stations and main train.
8- What are the four main land use areas or zones?
-The central business – the inner city – the suburbs – new industrial areas
9- What does C.B.D stand for?
Central Business District
10- What are the characteristics of a C.B.D?
- The main road is head into the C.B.D
- The value of land greatest here
- Buildings are built upwards
- It usually suffers from the worst traffic congestion
- It is often the oldest part of the city
- It may have a grid-iron street pattern where there are parallel straight
roads and other roads are running at right angles
