    Statement of Purpose – Sharon Ranjitkar

    Growing up in family of businessmen and businesswomen, I have always understood the


    importance of business and I always wanted to start my own. We are in commercial poultry
    farm business from past 37 years as from the time of grandfather and from past 10 years we
    are in passenger transportation business as well. As the nature of business is volatile, we have
    in recent years faced some loss in our poultry farm business and transportation business as we
    have to sell our many properties and stopped some business due to 2015 earthquake in Nepal,
    blockade by India for 6 months and COVID-19 outbreak. Also, the unstable government and
    market caused many businesses collapsed which causing economy crisis in Nepal. Yet, through
    hard work, shrewd business moves and help from our suppliers and partners, we have stayed
    afloat. Thus, I know the importance of adaptive strategy, good relationship with customer and
    suppliers, and dedication in a business.

    I admire the freedom and independence of owning a business. Having something of my own
    and seeing it grow with my effort is a beautiful thing. I remember working in our chicken farm
    as a kid and having to work in cleaning the chicken housing areas. It was a bit hectic job, but I
    enjoy being part of the team. Having seen our business through twist and turn I have
    understood the fact that one need to be in a business with high growth and high margin. The
    process developing a new business is definitely going to be difficult, but the change of success
    goes up dramatically with high margin and high growth sector.

    Thus, I have researched in future business ideas with focus on growth and margin. My obvious
    conclusion was Frozen food business due to the multitude of reasons. The global frozen food
    market sized was valued at USD 265.13 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach a value of USD
    504.41 billion by 2030, at a CARG of 8.4%. As report from, “THE KATHMANDU POST” the frozen
    food market in Nepal is growing by 10-15% per year after the COVID-19 lockdown. The demand
    of frozen food in Nepal’s market is very high compared to the supply as we have to import from
    INDIA, CHINA and USA.

    Every year farmers doing protesting by throwing foods and vegetables on road due to lack of
    market and right price and I think frozen food is the best solution for this recurring problem. On
    the other hand, many rural parts suffers from mal nutrition and starvation. With frozen food, I
    can help our farmers and agricultural sector of Nepal. Furthermore, Frozen foods can stay for
    long term and it is more hygienic and nutritious for example; the vegetables that pick up from
    ground its nutrition and protein will be 80% gone after 3 days and right after picking up if we do
    frozen it can stays for 8-12 months.

    Creating a frozen food enterprise in Nepal makes good business sense since I would be able to
    lower the cost of product due to low wages of country, it can create employment opportunities
    for thousands of people which can lead to changes in economic development as well. I believe a
    localized production will lead the Frozen food business to skyrocket in few years as many
    people is leading to their busy life schedule and at that time people go for easy and convenient
    option like frozen food. Also, the market has already been established by the foreign players.
    Food is the most necessary things in human life as we have to eat daily. The future of business
    is frozen food is highly secure because food is a never ending essential. I do think there will be
    countless challenges along the way, one of the main challenges in frozen food business being
    lack of reliable cold chain infrastructure, which can make it difficult to transport and store
    frozen food product in Nepal. I believe with proper guidance and good education, I will be able
    to able to combat and solve the problems along the way.
