To derive a relationship between different physical quantities in any physical phenomenon:


6. Suppose that the oscillations of a simple pendulum depends on (i) mass of the bob (ii) the length of
the string (l) , (iii) acceleration due to gravity (g) and (iv) angular displacement ( θ ) . Dimensionally ,
show which of the above factors have an influence upon the period and in what way .
7. A satellite is orbiting around a planet. Its orbital velocity (v) is found to depend upon
(a) Radius of orbit (R) (b) Mass of planet (M) (c) Universal gravitation constant (G)
Using dimensional analysis find an expression relating orbital velocity (v) to the above physical
quantities.
8. Centripetal force (F) on a body of mass (m) moving with uniform speed (v) in a circle of radius (r)
depends upon m, v and r. Derive a formula for the centripetal force using theory of dimensions.

for the kinetic energy of the body using the method of dimensions .
10. The orbital velocity v of a satellite depend on its mass m , the distance r from the centre of the
earth and the acceleration due to gravity g . By the method dimensional analysis , Obtain an
expression for the velocity .
11. The frequency (f ) of a stretched string depends upon the tension F . ( dimensions of force ) , length
l of the string and the mass per unit length µ of string . Derive the formula for frequency .
12. Assuming that the critical velocity V of viscous fluid flowing through a tube depends only upon its
density ρ , radius of the tube r and the coefficient of viscosity ƞ , show by the method of dimensions
