1.Research on the CG for EsP from Grades 1 to 10. Check on the pamantayan
(standards) of EsP from Grades 1 to 10. Does the teaching of EsP in the grades help in
eliminating the weaknesses of the Filipino character? Share your findings.

Based on my thorough research of the Curriculum Guide (CG) for Edukasyon sa

Pagpapakatao (EsP) from Grades 1 to 10, I can confidently affirm that yes, the
teaching of Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP) in Grades 1-10 help in addressing and
eliminating the weaknesses of the Filipino character.

EsP is a subject that focuses on values education and character development, aiming
to instill positive values, ethical behavior, and moral decision-making in students.
Through the teaching of EsP, students are exposed to various topics and activities that
promote self-awareness, empathy, respect for others, and responsible citizenship. The
subject covers areas such as personal development, family life, community
engagement, and national identity, all of which contribute to the holistic development of
students’ character. By providing a structured and intentional approach to values
education, EsP helps students reflect on their actions, make ethical choices, and
develop a strong moral compass. It encourages them to become responsible and
compassionate individuals, capable of contributing positively to society. However, it is
important to note that the effectiveness of EsP in eliminating weaknesses in the Filipino
character depends on various factors such as the quality of teaching, implementation
strategies, and support from the school and community. Continuous evaluation and
improvement of the curriculum and teaching methods are necessary to ensure its
impact on character development.
2. Research on the SHS Curriculum. Find out if there are subjects where the following
are intentionally taught: (1) sense of patriotism and national pride; (2) a sense of the
common good; (3) a sense of integrity and accountability; (4) the value and habits of
discipline and hard work; (5) the value and habits of self-reflection and analysis; (6) the
internalization of spiritual values; (7) the emphasis on essence rather than on form.

Based on my research on the SHS Curriculum, here are the information regarding the
intentional teaching of the following values:
(1)Sense of patriotism and national pride: The subjects that can contribute to fostering a
sense of patriotism and national pride include:
•Komunikasyon at Pananaliksik sa Wika at Kulturang Pilipino: This subject focuses on
the study of Philippine culture, language, and literature, which can help students
develop a deeper appreciation for their national identity.
•Contemporary Philippine Arts from the Regions: This subject explores various art forms
and expressions in the Philippines, promoting an understanding and appreciation of
Filipino cultural heritage.

(2)Sense of the common good: The subjects that can help develop a sense of the
common good include:
•Introduction to the Philosophy of the Human Person: This subject explores ethical
theories and concepts, encouraging students to reflect on moral values and their
implications for the common good.

(3)Sense of integrity and accountability: While integrity and accountability may not be
clearly taught as separate subjects, these values can be integrated into various subjects
and activities throughout the curriculum. Subjects such as Values Education and
Personal Development provide opportunities for students to reflect on ethical behavior,
responsibility, and the importance of integrity and accountability.

(4)Value and habits of discipline and hard work: The value and habits of discipline and
hard work are fostered through the strict academic engagement and self-motivation
required in various subjects, including Mathematics, Science, and Languages.
(5)Value and habits of self-reflection and analysis: While self-reflection and analysis
may not be explicitly mentioned in the subject list, subjects such as Research and
Humanities provide opportunities for students to engage in self-reflection, critical
analysis, and synthesis of information.

(6)Internalization of spiritual values: The internalization of spiritual values can be

addressed through subjects such as Values Education, and Christian Living Education
(CLE). These subjects aim to develop students’ moral and spiritual dimensions,
fostering values such as compassion, empathy, and respect for others.

(7)Emphasis on essence rather than on form: The emphasis on essence rather than
form can be encouraged through subjects such as Research, which focuses on critical
thinking, problem-solving, and the analysis of underlying concepts and principles.

Therefore, the SHS curriculum includes a range of subjects that are intentionally
designed to teach and cultivate values such as patriotism, the common good, integrity,
discipline, self-reflection, spiritual values, and the emphasis on essence.
3.Research on DepEd orders on value education and value integration.
Can these DepEd orders disprove that the Philippine educational system is more form
than substance?
According to my research, some of the DepEd orders that regards on value education
and value integration are, DepEd Order (DO) 41, s. 2003- Values Education in the Basic
Education Curriculum, Department Order (DO) No. 41 series of 2003, and DM # 406,s.
2022- Reiteration on the Integration of Values Education.
These DepEd orders mentioned does not directly disprove that the Philippine
educational system is more form than substance. These orders cover various aspects of
education, including values education, curriculum revisions, and guidelines on the
opening of classes. While they contribute to the overall framework and implementation
of the educational system, they do not address the broader issue of whether the system
prioritizes form over substance.
To assess whether the Philippine educational system prioritizes form over substance, it
is necessary to consider various factors such as teaching methods, assessment
practices, teacher training, infrastructure, and overall learning outcomes. Additionally, it
is important to look at research studies, evaluations, and feedback from students,
parents, and educators to get a comprehensive understanding of the system’s strengths
and weaknesses. While these DepEd orders contribute to the educational framework,
the evaluation of the system’s effectiveness requires a more comprehensive analysis
that goes beyond individual orders. It is essential to consider the implementation of
these orders, their impact on teaching and learning, and how they align with the overall
goals of education in the Philippines.
Therefore, while DepEd orders related to value education and integration are
significant, they alone cannot definitively disprove or prove the claim that the Philippine
educational system is more form than substance. A holistic assessment of the system is
needed to make a well-informed judgment.
4.Which of the Filipino characters applies to you? Have schools helped you to
counteract such weakness?
The Filipino characters that applies to me are the Pakikipagkapwa-tao, Joy and Humor,
Hard work and Industry, Faith and Religiosity, and Lack of Discipline.
I have the character to love building social relationships with other people which falls on
pakikipagkapwa-tao, I am not the kind of person that is introvert, I love exploration
which will serve as the way that I can interact with different person in the society.
Socializing people character which I have helps me boost my self confidence or self
esteem which is necessary for personal development.
In every problem that I have I didn't take it as very much serious which causes stress
because I believe that life is mystery, and part of that mystery is that we are destined to
counteract different problems in our life which can make us more stronger than we
thought. We are not born to be perfect, so difficulties are always within us, it’s only up to
us on how we handle it, but for me in every challenges that I faced, I still have the joy
and humor on me, I always give laughter to my problem, and honestly I thank God that I
experienced obstacles in life, cause with this, I learn lot of lessons which I can use to
become a better version of myself.
Since I was a child I always dreamed to become a successful woman so that I can help
my family raise from the poverty we experience, I always wish that someday I can spoil
my family with the stuff they wanted which they literally deserved. In that time, I already
know that having quality education is the key to achieve this goal of mine. So when I
started my schooling journey I really put enough hard works in this industry as much as
I can to fulfill my desires. And because of that hard works I invest, I’m already now in
college pursuing my dreams, and up until now I still put hard works in this industry I
choose since I am now closer to the success I dreamed off ever since I was a child.
I am the person who believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I’m one of his believers even though I cannot prove its existence. I trust in him, I always
ask for his guidance in every decision I made, I sincerely pray to him because I can feel
the relief if I’m with him. I did that question his capability, all I know is that I have faith in
him and entrust to him my journey in life. I am Christian, I go to church in the day of the
Sabbath, and I offer him my life and let him enter to my heart, and I believe he is my
savior.
I cannot deny the fact that I have also weakness character. I am not born to be perfect, I
am born to become who I am right now. I really admit that as a person I possess the
lack of discipline character which highlighted the poor time management. I am also one
of those students who comply task when the deadline is really close. I affirm that I
actually practice the Mañana habit character every time their is a task given to me, and
that practice is the reason why I cannot manage my time correctly.

And my answer to the question given above is, yes, schools helped me to counteract
the lack of discipline character. Schools that I engage in provide environment that
promotes the development of discipline and character traits. Schools I go to, implement
roles and regulation that instill discipline and offers character education programs They
provide opportunities for us to engage in activities that promote self discipline,
responsibility, and ethical behavior. They give us accurate knowledge on how we can
handle things correctly to avoid any conflicts. Schools practice us to be on time or value
the time, because I’ve learn in institutions the time is very important, wasting one
second time possibly may result to complications. So through schools, I gain knowledge
to practice time management and self discipline in all aspects to foster my growth and
development.
