Siswa Kelas X SMK Diponegoro 1 Jakarta Tahun Ajaran 2017/2018

ABSTRAK
Masalah pada penelitian ini adalah bahwa siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam
pembelajaran membaca karena kurangnya perbendaharaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris.
Keterbatasan kosakata mereka mempengaruhi motivasi mereka dalam proses belajar
dan juga pemahaman mereka mengenai teks deskripsi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah
untuk meningkatkan perbendaharaan kosakata siswa melalui teknik teka-teki silang
sehingga akan mempengaruhi pemahaman mereka tentang teks tersebut. Subjek dari
penelitian ini adalah kelas X-AP SMK Diponegoro 1 Jakarta yang terdiri dari 25 orang
siswa. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilaksanakan dalam 1 siklus, dengan didahului oleh
pretest. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui lembar observasi dan tugas tertulis. Hasil
penelitian menunjukkan bahwa di pretest, rata-rata nilai siswa adalah 5,7 dan setelah
diberikan perlakuan di siklus 1, nilai siswa meningkat menjadi 6,9. Meskipun ada
pengingkatan pada nilai siswa, tetapi nilai tersebut belum memenuhi kriteria nilai
minimum yaitu 7,5. Sampai pada tahap ini, siklus sudah selesai dilaksanakan sebagai
langkah awal untuk penelitian berikutnya. Siklus selanjutnya akan dilaksanakan pada
waktu yang akan datang. Maka, berdasarkan hasil nilai siswa, teknik teka-teki silang
tidak terlalu berhasil untuk meningkatkan nilai siswa pada materi membaca.

ABSTRACT

The problem of this research is that students have difficulties in reading lesson because
of they are lack of vocabulary. Their vocabulary deficiency affects their motivation in
learning activity and also their comprehension about descriptive text. The study aims to
enhance students vocabulary mastery by using crossword puzzle technique, so that it
can affect their understanding about the text. The subject of this study is class X-AP of
SMK Diponegoro 1 Jakarta which consist of 25 students. This classroom action
research was conducted in 1 cycle, with the pretest in the beginning of the cycle. The
data collection technique used observation sheet and written task. The result showed
that in pretest, the average score of the students is 5,7 and after given treatment in cycle
1, the score was increased to 6,9. Although there was an improvement of the students’
score, but the score has not reached the minimum required score which is 7,5. Until this
step, the cycle is done as an early effort for further research. The extended cycle will be
done by in the future. Thus, with reference to the score result, crossword puzzle
technique was less successful to improve students’ score in reading.
