Vocabulary Support: Word Webs
Similarity and proportionality are the focus of this unit. To bring these concepts together in
review, provide chart paper and markers, and have small groups of students work together to
create a concept web illustrating the words and their corresponding vocabulary along with
any strategies learned. Make recommendations for color coding, such as vocabulary in blue
and strategies in red. Make suggestions for students to add applications of these concepts
from other academic areas (for example density, speed, and architecture) to the web using
another color. Display the charts in the classroom.
Co-Craft Questions and Problems
Pair students, and have them co-create a problem similar to Example 1 in the Student Book.
Have them work together to solve their problem and then trade their problem with another
