Lesson 1: How Forces Affect the Motion of an Object.
I.OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
The learners demonstrate understanding of gravity and friction affect movements of
objects.
B. Performance Standard
The learner should be able to produce an advertisement, and demonstrate road
safety.
C. Learning Competency/ Objectives
At least 75% of learners should be able to
1. Describe how forces affect the motion of an object.
2. Infer how forces affect the motion of an object.
3. Understanding of the effects of motion of an object.
SFE- IIIa-b-1

II. CONTENT
Effects of Force on the motion of an object.

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. Textbook/ pages
The New Science Links Worktext in Science & Technology pp. 294-308

Science A Closer Look pp. 389 – 391

B. Other Learning Resources

Pictures, Chart, Powerpoint presentation

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
The teacher will show pictures on the effect of forces.

Ask: - What causes the hat to move upward?

- What makes the motorbike move?
- What Causes the “Kalesa” to move?

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

Show pictures of the following…
- A boy riding a bike.
- A boy playing marbles
- A girl playing bowling.
- Marble can move if you give them a push.

C. Presenting examples/ instances of the lesson

Group Activity

Activity 1
Observing How Forces Affect motion

Problem: How do forces affect motion.

Materials:
A thick rope about 6 meters long open space
Chalk ribbon or cloth
Procedure:
1. Prepare 2 teams with four members to play tug-of-war. The rest of the class will
serves as observers.
(Note: You can substitute tug-of-war with arm wrestling if an open space is not
available.
2. Tie a ribbon to mark the middle of the rope. Draw a line on the group.
3. During the tug-of-war, the observers will observe the movement of the rope and
the members of each group and how then rope has moved with respect to the team’s
motion.
4. Upon the teacher’s signal, begin then tug-of-war.
5. Observe and record your observation.
Guided Questions:
- In which team the rope has moved?
- Describe how the members of each team has moved.
- What causes the movement of the rope and the members of the team?
- In which condition the rope is not moving?
Conclusion:
Make conclusion based from the given problem.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 1

Group Reporting / Presenting of the Output
Sharing of Results
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 2.
Answer these questions:
How do forces affect each other?
-How do balanced forces and unbalanced forces differ?
F. Developing mastery (Leads to formative assessment)
Fill in the blanks with your observation.

Actions Observation/Changes
1. Stretch a rubber band
2. Push an arm chair at rest.
3. Squeeze a plastic ball
4. Roll a ball, then block the ball
with your feet.
G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living
-Flag raising - squeezing a toothpaste tube
- pushing cart
H. Making Generalizations about the lesson
What is force?
How does force affect the motion of an object?
What are the effects of forces on the objects?

Background information for the Teacher

- A force is a push or pulls that starts, stops, or changes the direction of an object.
It is the action exerted by a body on another, which is manifested in its motion.

- Effect of Force on the object.

a. Force can stop moving object
b. Force can transfer energy to an object to make it move
c. Force can change the speed of a moving object.
d. Force can change the size and shape of an object
e. Force can change the position or direction of movement of an object
Balanced forces is when the net forces are equal in strength and opposite direction.
Unbalanced forces is when forces of unequal strength or forces that are not
opposite in direction

I. Evaluating learning
Complete the sentence below: Choose from the words inside the box.

Energy force unbalanced forces

Balanced forces direction
1. When net forces are equal in strength and opposite in direction they are
_________________.

2. It is a push or pulls that starts, stops, or changes the direction of an object is called
__________

3. Forces are unequal strength or forces that are not opposite in direction are
called_____________.

4. Force can transfer __________ to an object to make it move

5. Force can change the position or _____________ of movement of an object

J. Additional activities for application or remediation
1. Cut out pictures showing effects of forces on the motion of an object and paste it
on a bond paper.
2. Draw Pictures or Comics
Everyday, we use push or pull. Find out what activities use force?
Draw pictures or Comics of some activities you use forces during the day.
Write dialogue about it.

V. Remarks

VI. Reflection

A. No. of learners who earned 80% on the

formative assessment
B. No. of learners who require additional
activities for remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of
learners who have caught up with the
lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies
worked well? Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which
my principal or supervisor can help me
solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials
did I use/discover which I wish to share
with other teachers?
