Lesson Plan in Mathematics

Senior High School Core Subjects

Pre-Calculus

I. Objectives
A. Content Standards
-The learners demonstrate an understanding of key concepts of conic sections and systems of nonlinear
equations.
B. Performance Standards
-The learners shall be able to model situations appropriately and solve problems accurately using conic
sections and systems of nonlinear equations.
C. Learning Competencies/Objectives
-solve problems involving parabola

II. Subject Matter

- SOME APPLICATIONS OF PARABOLA

III. Procedure
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
What is the meaning of conic section?

B. Establishing the purpose of the lesson

Show them a picture of a cone and have its cross section and determine what kind conic section it is.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson

Introduce them about the different conic sections (circle, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola)

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills – Conic sections

4) The cross section of a large parabolic microphone can be molded by the equation . What is the length of the
feedhorn?
5) If a ball is thrown vertically upward from the ground with an initial velocity of V0 ft/s, its distance above the ground after
t seconds is given approximately by y = V0t – 16t2. To what height will it rise if thrown up at 40 ft/s?
6) Find the points of intersection between the parabola y2 + 4x – 8y = 16 = 0 and the line x – y + 4 = 0. Sketch the graph.

E. Developing mastery
Formative Assessment

F. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living

Relate problems to actual life situation

G. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson

Summarize what you have discussed for the day

IV. Evaluation:
Give a seatwork or test

V. Assignment

Prepared by:

Julovern S. Molvizar, ECE
