ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT

1. Based on your readings on statistical data presentation by Junyong In and Sangseok Lee and
using your own words (understanding), List down 5 important reasons for each method of
presenting the data.

Methods of presenting the data

1. Text • The principal method for explaining findings, outlining trends, and
providing contextual information.
• Text can provide a much detailed interpretation of a data.
• Text can include additional explanation that may aid the
understanding of the reader/listener.
• Textual aid will make it easy for students to memorize, remember,
and learn important words more quickly and easily.
• Text help readers enhance their learning as they read through the
material

2. • Is best suited for representing individual information and represents

Table both quantitative and qualitative information.
• Used to organize large chunks of data
• Tables are used to organize data that is too detailed or complicated
to be described adequately in the text, allowing the reader to quickly
see the results.
• Prevents wordiness in presenting a data.
• A table is used to compare and contrast data values with several
shared characteristics or variables

3. • Graphs provide a visual interpretation of a given set of data.

Graphs • Graphs are used to present a visual explanation of a sequence of
events, procedures, or characteristics.
• A graph is a very effective visual tool as it displays data at a glance,
facilitates comparison, and can reveal trends and relationships
within the data such as changes over time, frequency distribution,
and correlation or relative share of a whole.
• Much easier to understand especially for visual learners.
• A graph is used to show trends, patterns, and relationships across
and between datasets

2. From your own perspective and from the video of Peter Blake, why is it important to
determine the class center of each class interval.

According to Peter Blake, it is important to determine the class center of each class
interval is because the class center is the number that would represent the whole group. The
class center is also used to computer for other statistical items in a table so it is important to
the get the class center early on so that we won’t have any difficulties in solving for those other
items. The class center also completes the data presentation because the class interval only
shows the extremities of the scores.

3. From the raw scores of 70 students, prepare the following visual presentation:

a. Tally Sheet d. Frequency Polygon

b. Ranking e. Histogram

c. Frequency Distribution Table

Raw Scores:
A. Tally Sheet:
B. Ranking
C. Frequency Distribution Table

Highest Score = 84
Lowest Score = 6
Range: 84+6=90
90+1=91
Interval = Range/No. of steps
= 91/10
