The due date has passed and late submissions are not accepted.
In this activity, you will examine your current home network, and detail its structure in both
a physical and logical network topology.
Take a few minutes to explore your current home or apartment network, how many devices
are there accessing the network? How many devices are transporting data across your LAN
and out to the internet? How are these devices connected to each other? Remember to
include Alexa and Google devices, Smart TV, Apple TVs and any other devices like tablets
and cell phones.
The Microsoft Oce license provided to you by Full Sail University includes the basic usage
of Microsoft Visio. No need to download anything as you can design your network layout
and save your documents directly to your OneDrive all in your browser. Visio can be
accessed by logging in at Oce.com, clicking on Apps on the left-hand side, and then
choosing Visio. This is an excellent opportunity to learn some of the basic functions of the
most popular diagramming software used by IT sta all over the world.
Using Visio, create a of the main oor of your home. Place any network-

connected devices and show how they are connected. Then, take that information and
create a logical topology of the same network. Notice how the doesn't look
the same, and isn't restricted to physical location?
• Be sure to identify ports and port numbers for your device connections (not as critical in
a wireless network)
Keep in mind, as we move forward, there are more pieces of information we should add to
our physical and logical topologies, this is a starting point to work from throughout the
month.
There are also industry standard symbols which are used for various devices, so take a
moment to research these, and see if you can place them appropriately.
These topologies are just a visual guide, please feel free to follow your own
design principles - just be sure to include any information you feel is relevant.

You can create your diagram using just 4 things: Shapes, connectors, lines, and text boxes.
Connectors: These are generated lines that snap between your shapes. You will notice
when you are creating a connector that small boxes will appear to show you where to snap
to.
Lines: This is simply using the line tool. Use it to draw your walls.
Text boxes: Used to create the Legend/Key and add your class information.
Rectangles: This is optional. Notice the Logical diagram has colored squares behind
sections of the drawings that help to dierentiate geographical locations. If you want to use

a rectangle, simply draw it out over the area you want it to cover. Once drawn, right-click on
it and Send it to the back. This will place all other objects from your diagram on top of the
rectangle.
Some shapes have labels that can be added to them to show below. This can be accessed
by double-clicking on the shape. Often, though, it is easier just to add a text box with the
information. Then you can move the text box to whichever spot next to the shape that is
easiest to see.
Connectors can have labels places on them, just like shapes. Double-click on the connector
to label it. You can move the label by dragging the yellow dot that shows up when the
connector is selected. You can also change the color and design the the connector by right-
clicking on it and using the context menu that pops up.

Will you accept this still? I’m going through today and doing these.

Cody,
With the hurricane and cleanup I'm just getting back to students. If you still need help
I'm going to have an open Zoom session Monday morning from 9-11 to allow people
to join in for help. I know it's Columbus Day but I'm going to set time aside since
students are behind. I will grant extensions for Week 1 activities to coincide with Week
2 activities.
